Trying my hand at blogging. I do not have any advertising yet. I was thinking about going with Amazon. I'm going to try and knock out about one post a day for a while. Please let me know what you think. And if you think Amazon would be good on it. What is rich? <- click the link

What type of products would you advertise on Amazon? General blogs about money usually attract poor people or penny pinchers so I cant see a lot of them spending money on Amazon as a daily thing.

I have never tried it myself, but I have friends who are pretty happy with Google AdSense.. it can also solve the "penny pinchers" problem Angelz mentioned because you can get paid per impression. The only problem is that the ads will not necessarily be relevant to your content.

I'm thinking that books like crush it, 4 hour work week, etc.... will be what sells the best.

And of course the group I'm going for is the people that want "self help" type books.

Remember to get an exact-match domain name! An exact-match domain that is .com, .net, or .org makes thing much, much easier.

I guess I did that and didn't know it.

I found 6,820,000 results for "what is rich"

I want to take all the info I learn and write a book called What Is Rich. That is my ultimate goal.

I think it may be worth it to split test the idea of using adsense against your amazon affiliate idea... This sounds like an interesting idea but I think that adsense should outperform the affiliate account... I realize that you want to focus on self-help but I don't know if your visitors will appreciate being sold self help when searching for money... as stated before if these guys are penny pinchers then you may benefit from adsense..

Thanks, I might try both. I just started it, so I have plenty of time.

I have been approved for both. So I'll use both! Thanks for the input.

The return on Amazon sales is very low so it would be worthwhile to have a mix of widgets to promote various products. There are various plugins for Clickbank, PayDotCom, Adsense and loads of individual products. Find a Clickbank plugin that you can target with your keywords so suitable products are loaded onto your site.

I say don't chase the money yet, and keep posting content with your story on how you got started with the blog, your mission statement. Then when you get that e-book done, give it away for free so you can build a list from it. Then build relationship with that list and recommend those book you wanted. Then you can keep marketing to that list. Start it right in the beginning so you can save the headaches later on!

        Dave - couldn't agree more!

This was the mistake I made when I started - trying to sell cold. Much better to give first and "ask" later...

I put a mix of both. I used the Amazon to do book reviews. I think it might work. I put the adsense down a little further. So far I have only had one click. But I think the two together will work well.

Rather than a plain Adsense plugin, there is also a plugin from Skadoogle which covers both Adsense and PayDotCom. I have it on a few of our blogs including our new one Net Video Club which we're still working on before a full release.

I think earning from adsense is made easy for newbie or beginner. And there are many internet marketer earn steady income just from adsense

  • I just took a look into your blog... Do you realize that you're going to write a humongous amount of content (and hours) for residual pennies (Adsense, Amazon)?

The blog is not targeted to anything in particular. "What Is Rich"... what exactly is that aimed for? you will attract a blurry mass of random visitors thus conversions will be minimum.

    I would re-think your strategy.

Really? Can you point me to your detailed research on the topic?

Well, you can however select which types of vendors can promote on your site by eliminating the ads and keywords you don't like.

And that is fine, but one of the things that needs to go into creation of a blog from the get go is how you are going to monetize it all around.

Like AA said above, you might have a lot of searches but it is still very unfocused.

You may get visits but without some real focus on something you will get mad bounces going on.

        Hi sosu,

Amazon would be quite good but your major concern at this point should be to try and have valuable content in your blog and not just 'posts' as you mentioned.

Giving value to your visitors will encourage them to look up the links in your pages.

There are visitors that doesn't waste more than few seconds when they get to blogs that seems empty or are filled with affiliate links.

Saying this is vital so that you will appreciate the need to not only bring traffic to your blog through quality content but to keep them for awhile too.

It is by 'looking' around your blog that one can see the side links and click in, especially when you must have wet the fellow's appetite via quality content.

Earning with Adsense is pretty easy. If you want to include Amazon Offers, make sure you test it and then calculate your cost of opportunity.

What I mean is, that you will need an X amount of clicks in order to sell an amazon product (your EPC). If your EPC is lower than what you would earn with PPC Ads such as AdSense, I would change my monetizing method, get it?

I think you also better provide space for famous ads network such as adsense, kontera besides promoting your main product

I think your blog looks great, and you sure have a lot of content! I didn't read through everything but to make it online, it's all about providing value, and it looks like that's exactly what you're doing.

However, I would not go for lots of ads on that blog, though, because I think it would be a bit annoying to be honest. Maybe you should try to add an opt-in form instead and start to build your list.

Amazon would be great in my opinion!
