Well let's take a look at the stats shall we and see what they indicate?

Hard to tell but I think FB has the Lions Share of the market at this time.

I don't think either will fade any time soon. Social media marketing is on the rise.

The only people who spam it are internet markety types. Other businesses actually talk to their people.

I added the bold for emphasis. You hit the nail on the head right there.

Twitter is an amazing site once you get past all of the auto-following and auto-tweeting spam bots. The real value of Twitter is in the conversations that take place, especially in themed #hashtag chats, and the relationships that you can develop with like-minded people in your niche.

If you're running your Twitter account on autopilot and never interacting with anyone, then Twitter isn't going to work for you. The key word in social media is "social".

I no longer reward automated accounts and spam bots with automatic follow backs, which is something that I used to do when I was concerned about increasing my follower count. I no longer focus on my follower count, but I do focus on the quality of the people that follow me, so I can make an informed decision on who to follow back.

I'd much rather have 1,000 real followers that engage and network with other real people than have 100,000 followers, which 99% of are spam bots just auto-following or auto-following me back.

Twitter doesn't work for a lot of marketers because they're too focused on marketing products to an ever increasing follower base of mostly automated Twitter accounts. That's ok though, because while they're busy talking about how Twitter sucks and this and that, I'm busy developing relationships with influencers that are going to do things like share my blog posts and re-tweet my tweets and help me expand my follower base organically with real people that are actually interested in what I have to offer.

As Scott Stratten, @unmarketing, says... "Stop marketing, start engaging".

P.S. In my opinion, the only reason Twitter will fade is if they don't figure out the monetization thing.

Twitter is pretty spammy, but Zuckerberg could easily destroy Facebook cuz he's an idiot. All it takes is one serious and big privacy break on Facebook and tons of people would leave.

Case in point, the large dip in March of this year. In spite of that, it remained #1! I am not sure he is 'smart' enough to ruin it completely. Lol.

Yes. They will all die as they are replaced by something else. MySpace is current proof of that. Personally, I think Twitter will go before FB.

  Actually I read a report on mashable recently and they said that number one source of sharing was FB, then email and twitter was somewhere in the mix. Biggest complaint was not enough space to write, so if we had to pick a sinkable one, it would be twitter by far. They also said myspace despite it's changes is on the verge of sinking big time, estimated a sale of 200 million dollars for it (I wouldn't pay that) but not like any of us didn't see that one coming .... WAY to spammy with the ads and page load time is beyond stupidly slow.

Because of it's powerful use for *so* many things, I believe facebook is here to stay for a very long time. At this point I have to check my facebook messages now, as there are people that contact me there and nowhere else, sometimes for very important things.

A facebook profile is becoming something of a snapshot of your entire persona these days, for better or worse.

Yeah, Twitter & Facebook will not fall for any near future. There are many changes in the works for Facebook. With new investments coming in. Twitter has made recent changes to get it more interactive. I still don't get it with Twitter. Yes, I hired someone to build me a Twitter account & get over 2,000 followers within a week. It was done within a week, but the Twitter account was created with some entertainment star. After 2 weeks i had like over a 100 followers disappear (after I made the changes to make it mine. With my details.) I realised that thgere were many 'entertainment industry people' as my followers. Didn't know how to market to them.

I have used both over the past 2 years, have over 100,000 Social Media Followers. For those of you that think Social Media is going away or doesn't work, you have been missing the BIG BOAT. You really just need to understand how to use it properly. Its not made for posting CPA and Affiliate Links, those can come later on a blog or video that you post that is interesting. It's also a numbers game but so is web traffic on Google.

I use both FB and Twitter but I think Twitter will fade out first, not any time soon of course but I think that's what will happen, I agree there is sooo much spac on that site it's not even funny, but who knows maybe Twitter will do something about it just like FB.

Twitter for sure. Not even a question about it. I read somewhere that research has shown that something ridiculous like 80-90% of new Twitter users are no longer using Twitter a month after they sign up.

Facebook is a lot more successful than Twitter ever will be - and rightly so. Twitter went well because at the time there was nothing that did what they did so simply. But now that is working against them - their platform is too simple and only does one thing so they have not much room to grow.

Facebook does what Twitter does and a whole lot more.

While I seriously doubt that either company will fail anytime soon, especially since so many savvy marketers and also entrepreneurs are leveraging the synergistic capabilities of both platforms, if I had to pick one, then it'd be Twitter, and it'd be for very much the same reasons you have listed above.

Facebook has much more of a hold on people because of the amount of time they end up spending on there and the many different features available, including the rich multimedia experience you can get there which is simply not available on Twitter.

Facebook will remain the king until either something better comes along or there is a big privacy issue of some sort.

Twitter will continue with its hardcore users I think its a media that some people get and some people don't

I think it will be twitter, as twitter has less applications and users than Facebook.
I also think it is Twitter because it is purely used for marketing only nowadays without have any real Social networking and more and more marketers are coming to it and ordinary folks leave it...

Twitter quickly becoming a link exchange.
There were many other "Twitters" before, Twitter is so popular just because good advertising.
Facebook brings something new and is still developing

Neither will fade, I believe they will both continue to grow.
They may have audience overlap, but they exist for different reasons. I expect that we will see other competing social networks, but Facebook and Twitter do not compete.

Facebook? Never. Very curious comparison, they may be both new but facebook brought a lot of things out and it's growing continuously. Some even said it was like a country. Regarding Twitter, it's abuot time it fases away. Yeah, it's spammy but it's also too simple. If it had been a little more complex maybe the story would turn out differently.

Twitter will eventually fade. Facebook, in my opinion is here to stay. They are constantly growing and are on the way of becoming the new Google. Just like Google is not going anywhere so isn't Facebook. It will simply become a bigger and bigger technological empire.

I my opinion twitter has more potential than FB, according to one research Twiiter in future can be used to predict micro consumer behavior. That aspect of twitter is still not understood or rather not developed yet. I don't think people investing in twitter are so dumb if they they haven't seen what it holds in future. Just think how specific an ad can be in twitter. I also don't think spam will kill this business, in the larger picture it doesn't contribute much.
Now regarding FB the stakes of screwing it up is pretty high and also I think masses like to experiment and maybe another FB idea is in the making...

Twitter is a fad - but it's also quite useful. It's not going anywhere.

Facebook is going to have big issues if they don't get a handle on privacy.

The next big thing that will replace them - a social networking site that allows much tighter control over privacy. Not everyone wants to live so transparently and I sincerely believe that facebook is going to end up like myspace; a place for marketers and businesses to promote and network.

Facebook was popular because it seemed more personal than myspace - I think they are losing that feeling quickly, but no doubt they will be around for the next 5 - 10 yrs as a major force.

Facebook will fade first.

Why?

Because marketers are failing to see the value in Twitter and failing to use it effectively, so they are leaving.

Meanwhile, more and more products are coming out covering Facebook marketing.

So, those marketers will move to Facebook. Eventually, all the Twitter spammers will follow them, thinking Facebook will be a better place to spam than Twitter.

And then Twitter will be largely left with genuine users.

Meanwhile, we'll be seeing Warrior Forum posts on how Facebook sucks and that it's full of people spamming each other with affiliate links.

I have over 16,000 people following me on Twitter and I doubt if any of my Tweets have ever converted into a sale.

AND I do offer lots of nice freebie things quite often - even my prize winning BBQ sauce recipe and my Famous Chicken Pot Pie! And technical freebies, too.

I've purchased a few WSO's on the subject. I think there is one by Paulie888 that I thought would absolutely work if you put in the time and method he recommends.

If you want to try to make Twitter work, you can probably still get that from him. I always watch for him. He offers good value in his posts and products.

twitter for me... It's like facebook is the evolution of twitter from a text base social networking site facebook has evolved even more. It's great application compatibility to other online applications makes it a solid foundation.

If I had to pick which one would crap out first I'd go with Twitter.

There is way much more stuff a user can do on FaceBook, and Twitter as far as I know all you can do is post tiny little messages where is the fun in that?
