Anybody using 'IP deny manager' in cpanel?

Any pros and cons?

Because I am seeing many bots trying to search for /blog/, /users/, /downloads/ on the web site.

That would be an exercise in futility, simply because spammers and hackers use many multiple IP's and you would eventually have to deal with thousands upon thousands of IP's.

Once you start to have serious traffic, bad bots and other kinds of problems such as referrer spam will become overwhelming. You could end up spending hours per day obsessing about nothing.

Not worth the time or effort.

And if you don't know what your doing, you may even end up banning "good bots" such as search engines.

Just focus on securing your sites, and earning money with them.

My thoughts exactly, because I ended up with some 30 - 40 ips. I am not sure whether I am blocking real persons with that ip.

But want to hear about what others are doing. That is why I posted it here.

      Thank you for your time.

    radhika:

Yes and it sucks. More often than not bots use a 'range' instead of a single IP and it's a pain to keep up with all of the maverick bots.

It's easier to block them via .htaccess if you can nail down a range that they use and there are a few scripts available that will help you identify the problem bots and automatically ban them. Personally, I don't use any of them but I do remember reading about the scripts on Digital Point.

Let me know if you find any good solutions so that I can try them out on a site of mine that is being abused by bots.

    Respectfully,
    EJ

I won't buy a thing from DPF. Too many unsupported products floating around there.

Like you said, IP deny manager su#ks.

      Thank you for your time.
