Want to Succeed? Get Focused, Directed, Clear & Committed!

Get Focused !

What does it mean to be Focused?

a. Your mind is stable and faithful, it's not flipping here and there and running all over the place, its locked into its goal.

b. You need to be focused on what to do "on" your project and "with" your project.

Get Directed !

What does it mean to be Directed?

a. Have a plan of action, your going somewhere, your directed, your not just floundering around.

If you want to be an aviator, you've got to somehow learn to fly a plane. You can't become a heart surgeon with 3 weeks of correspondence school.

Get Clear !

What does it mean to be Clear?

a. A mind that's not changing or wavering or doubting or forgetting, "where your going", your goal.

Your not clear if your mind is all muddled and your changing it to much and forgetting where your going. One day you want to go for it, and the next day you don't.

Get Committed !

What does it mean to be Committed?

a. Committed to work on your project faithfully, to bring to pass your goals.

If your gonna accomplish things, sometimes there is a little time involved, sometimes there is alot of time involved, sometimes there are great steps and accomplishments upon accomplishments, that are building to great accomplishments - and you have to be faithful.

There's basically only 2 things in life
that hold people back from becoming successful...
#1. Lack of Desire

If people would go after the goals that they have like they go after the things that they love to do for leisure and pleasure, and with that same excitement, desire, zeal, committment and faithfulness, they would be real successful and gets lots of things done.

You've gotta get down into the depths of your heart and fight with all you've got!

The reason people succeed at sales in the world is that they know that they have got to work to eat, they dig in, they know that the'll starve if they don't. This same type of mentality has to be applied to be successful in internet marketing, especially with internet marketing.

#2 Fear

Steve, I'd add #3 to your list of roadblocks:

#3: Mind clutter: All the stuff that sits on the back of your mind and leave loops in your attention. Whether consciously or not, it's always going to be there, nagging you, distracting you, and leaving you with an impression that there is "something" more important you should be doing.

Learn to make a good brain dump, sort everything you need to do, how you'll do it, when you'll do it, and move on. Don't let things sit on your mind and steal your attention and focus from where you need to direct it most.

This is an important point, and controlling what you have around your workplace/desk is crucial in avoiding mind clutter.

Everything on and around your workplace/desk needs to reflect your focused mission, and simply eliminating pointless physical clutter, as well as having pictures and objects that keep you positive and focused, can have a great impact on your productivity and what you do on a daily basis.

Another great tip is to take 5-10 minutes every day before you start working in earnest to zero in on what you want to accomplish and have clear objectives in mind before you even start doing anything on the computer. This will greatly reduce perceived distractions and keep you more focused on the task at hand, and ultimately makes you a lot more productive.

I think that this point is covered above with getting clear. I wanted to keep this a simple process. So that people can digest it easily. There are many ways you can add detail to this, but I believe thats for each individual to decide. Because each person has his or her own obstacles to overcome.

I layed out the basic principles, the foundation, so that others can apply these in whatever manner needed.

These are principles and they work for everyone, no matter who you are, what country your from.

These principles apply to all areas of life, and work.....

      Great thread!

Especially the idea of desire and urgency is something that hits home now. I have a full time job and know that I don't really need the income from internet marketing to keep on living the way I do now. That doesn't mean I don't have a goal of doing this full time. It's just that that makes it easy to postpone certain actions to another day.

If you want to be successful in something you sometimes have to step outside of your comfort zone and that can be something people avoid doing. In that case it helps to take baby steps. On the other hand, taking baby steps sometimes interferes with your sense of urgency. If you definitely have the burning desire and sense of urgency, go for it! Stepping out of your comfort zone is not that scary anymore, if you really have to do that to "survive".

here's a fun way of looking at FOCUS: Follow One Course Until Successful.

Problem is of course that in practice it's easier said than done.

For most people it's not the lack of desire or the fear alone, but something that's called "ambivalence":

if your desire to make money online and your fears or desire to do stuff that's not compatible with making money online (like going to rock-concerts all the time) are EQUAL (or the non-money-making stuff outweighs the desire to make money online), then you have no chance in hell of ever making it.

Desire to make money online 10 out of 10? Awesome, but not good enough if your desire to do other stuff (or your deep down anxieties) are 10 out of 10 too.

The big problem is that a lot of people see the potential of what's possible, then engage in some glorified success fantasies (totally normal, we all do it) and then when results don't come in fast, start getting overwhelmed and lose focus.

So: get clear on how badly you want this (just like Steve says above), i.e. how much desire you have, but then also check how badly you want to go to the pub and how "afraid" you are to be salesy, how "afraid" you are of "failing" (reality is: even for the successful, the majority of projects are NOT raging successes!), how "afraid" you are of ....

    All the best

Good advice, especially on the internet since you are your own master. I definitely intend to focus more this year and keep a strong mental image of what I am aiming for. If you can attach strong emotions to your desires you can keep going when others give up.

I don't have any opinion to add here further since all has been said, but will just share one thing which helps me and that is some breathing exercise something like yoga. It may sound odd but that's just what helps me to focus and removes unwanted anxiety ...

I do my yoga every morning to start my day. I attribute 100% of my success to it. When my mind is clear, I'm unstoppable

I guess having a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly goals is important. Without a plan, you are just planning to fail. Alot of times, we know what to do, but most often than not, we don't know how to do it.

Great post Steve and a powerful thread.

Getting focused gives you power because concentrating on 1 thing to the exclusion of all else eliminates the enticing options that diminish your power.

Getting clear creates magical effects. I went through a shift recently where I became entirely clear on one area of my life. The universe responded immediately with some wonderful opportunities, as it always does.

    Thanks for sharing.
