Mighty Virile EZA vs. Impotent Effete Document Directories

I'm a little confused as to what the point of converting articles into documents is or why people are interested in doing "docs" instead of standard articles to EZA/Go and ArticleBase.

The documents when they show up in the search results are kludgy to look at. I've never myself come across something on docstoc and said "Wow - this 2 page powerpoint says a lot about what I want to know!".

I have had that experience with articles though.

I have also had that same experience with videos.

I suppose that converting articles into videos is a much smarter way to go. The obvious thinking is that youtube.com is the 2nd largest search engine (next to Google) and gets more searches than even Ya-Bing-Hoo does.

So - it makes sense to get your blog or article ranked in Google, YouTube, Ya-BingHoo.

But why the document sharing sites?

Publishing to document sites is almost as confusing as spinning my article and publishing to a thousand directories no one has ever heard of - those "backlinks" are silently ignored by the search engines given enough time.

Maybe I am missing something?

Anyway, this post was a great opportunity to say Ya-Bing-Hoo a few times in a public forum.

Perhaps other people who use the interent in a different way than you do like to read documents or pdfs or powerpoints.

I would also suspect that it depends on what the subject matter of the writing is about what people are reading it. I find it interesting that even my wife and I who have our desks right next to each other in our office use differetn parts of the web to find what we want.

I am asking to learn and see if folks are actually making good money doing this.

I have been converting some of my articles into formatted powerpoints and pushing them to youtube and metacafe and tagging them.

That certainly gets me hits and some of those hits come back to my blog - so yeah, I see the value there.

When I look at stuff in scribd/docstoc - most of those links aren't even clickable. At least not in Firefox.
