I was just wondering, as I received yet another promotion touting MRR rights, who the heck invented the phrase ---> Master Resell Rights ?

I am probably wrong, but the first time I heard MRR's talked about online was by a marketer named Bill Myers. He may not have coined the phrase, but I know he was one of the earlier people to offer rights like this on his products.

It might not have been a term that was introduced specifically to the internet marketing arena, but also in offline marketing ventures too.

It comes to us by way of the music industry. From a master recording, several reproduction-quality recordings are produced. From those reproduction-quality recordings, consumer-quality recordings can be produced and sold to the general public.

If you have access rights to the master, you can make reproduction-quality recordings. If not, you can only sell consumer-quality recordings.

The notion persists even though there is no quality degradation in digital copies.
