A quick tip to significantly increase your subscriber list

Hi guys,

Just want to share something with you that could greatly increase your opt-ins. You know how most squeeze pages are - if the visitor decides to leave, you get one less potential subscriber.

So here's another chance to get the person to subscribe. When the visitor closes the page without opting-in, an exit splash or exit pop-up comes out saying that they can download the first half of the report or e-book you're giving away for free.

It's important to note that "No Email is Required." They can simply download it immediately without having to give out their email.

In the report and download page itself, put a note that says if they want the second half of the report, e-book or whatever (and more if possible), they need to subscribe on your squeeze page.

That's it. Most people who downloaded the first half of the report would want to finish reading it. It's the Zeigarnik effect in action (just do a Google search if you're not aware of it).

Check out how I did it with my site:

Just wanted to let you see it in action; no promotion intended, so just don't subscribe, ok?

I'm not too keen on exit pop-ups and don't use them on any of my sites, but an interesting tactic nevertheless.

I wonder if there is a way to use a variation of this tactic, without using exit pop-ups.

Thats a great idea.. i'll have to try this on one of my sites... Something else I have seen work well for list building is to give the ebook out for free (sure everyone likes free) and then when the user opens the pdf, you can put javascript in the pdf to open an opt-in window... Just make sure you let them close it.. not everyone will opt-in but plenty of people will if they find the book useful and the link opens every time they open the pdf so they will always be able to signup later if the information they received helped them.. Plus if your ebook is distributed elsewhere you STILL have a change to get their email on your list...

That's a very refreshing view on how to increase your list. Will give it a try soon.

It is a good idea but the exit popup you have looks like everyone else's and I found my instinct was to click past it without reading it (I have checked out many products and that is what I do). If you have one that is a different from every one else's with large red letters stating FREE, I think your chances of success would be better.

Seems that a few of us hate pop ups

This is one of those things that may work for some visitors but will also annoy plenty too. There have been a few websites recently that have made me tell them I don't want to stay on the site or get their special offer via pop-ups when I try to leave and not only do I leave but I also make a note never to go back and I delete/unsubscribe from the email list that sent me there (if that's how I got there).

So not only should you pay attention to how you operate these things yourself but how your list respond when you send them to someone else's site that does use them. It's much easier to lose a subscriber by showing them pop-ups than it is to get them in the first place.

I understand, Andy. I'm not sure if the exit splash I'm using has the same reputation as a normal exit pop-up. A major portion of successful Clickbank sites, as well as sites of top well-known marketers, are using the exit splash.

I, myself, am alarmed when I see an exit pop-up. But the exit splash has become too common for many sites to use that it doesn't bother me at all.

In y eyes it just highlights that you should be more confident in your what you are offering, or you should be working harder to provide more value.

      Andy
That's a very good point Andy. I'm not a fan of exit pop ups either. The way i see it, if the prospect can't see the value in what i am offering them, then i will not chase after them like a desperate salesperson. I want people to WANT my stuff, not for me to chase them down the street to force it down their throats.

If your offer is good enough and provides incredible value, you should not be thinking of people leaving your site in the first place. It all seems desperate to me and it's exactly the sense i get when i am presented with them on websites i visit. It's tacky, desperate and it shows that this person has no confidence in their products at all. Just my opinion is all.

    Hi Mike,

It's like submitting part 1 articles and encourage the users to read the part 2 articles to your website.

Good idea, the best part of it is that it can be applied in so many different things with many different methods, but using this as a base. Nice share

That's great advice, I'm definitely going to implement this.

I need to increase my subscriber list. I have a lot of traffic coming to my squeeze page, but not enough opt-ins.

    Thanks again!

I give direct link and they can download template to ease them making money by simply being my subscriber but seemed that it does not work.
