Vertical Portal - HTML or Wordpress?

Hey everyone,

I am considering creating a vertical portal site in one of my niches, and am wondering if anyone has ever seen Wordpress used as the platform?

I know that html is what is usually used, but since you can do a lot of the same things with WP as html nowdays, I wonder if that might not be the way to go? Any opinions and thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Maybe I put this in the wrong forum catagory? Or maybe nobody has a portal site going on? I just would like to know if anyone here uses WP as a portal platform or is html better?
