Blog Commenting strategies

I'm going to be stepping up my blog commenting and I have a few questions about how to go about it.

1. Do the blogs HAVE to be in the same niche as my site? I know it helps but I don't know how many blogs there will really be in my niche.

2. What is a good search string that I can put into Google to get some good results. Am I able to filter PR in the results?

    1. The blogs absolutely do not have to be in the same niche. I can guarantee that off-context linkbuilding works, so you can see benefits from leaving a link anywhere (within reason). Of course, relevant links pack more of a punch.

    2. Try this search footprint (one of many I have tucked away):

    inurl:article "Powered By GeekLog"

    Happy commenting.

    Tip:

Download the SEOquake addon for Firefox. It lets you arrange the Google results by order of PR. Set the search size to 100.

As long as your name is the achor text to your site you should be able to write what you want.

I think as long as your comments are relevant to the psot you are writing on, it shouldn't be a problem at all. There are going to be a few folks who do not want your comments if you are not in the same niche, but there's not much you can do about them.

You are welcome to post on my blog, it's in my sig. You are welcome to post on my WF blog as well. I know that is only a couple but its two more than before.

Depending on the blog owner, your comments may be automatically posted or they may go to the administrator for review first.

the niche and the comments should go along together. And it has to be somehow related to one another.

You can comment on any blog subject but I suppose from relevant sites, it is bit better.

If you have a cooking blog, you can type in "cooking blog" or "recipe blogs" in google search and you can find related subject blogs.

Make sure you use your name for commenting as many blogs owner may not approve it if you use keyword in tags, some allows it for check for commenting policy or other comments to see what not to do.

Niche based blogs comment will help much. But it's very hard to find High PR pages with less OBL when we find niche related blogs.
Most of blog platforms have footprint like "Powered by platform name"
If you research about blog commenting platforms, you can easily find many places to put comments.

    Thanks

Here is the string to search for in Google: CommentKahuna

    Trust me on that one...

Now, for the other part of your question. I PREFER commenting on blogs which have related content.

Example: Niche: Overcome Anxiety Blog Comments on: Psychology, Self-Help, Recovery, etc...blogs

You will probably not be directly competing with the blog owner, and can add value to their content.

NOTE: NEVER fear commenting on a competitors blog. The worst thing which can happen is they do not approve it. The best thing which can happen is that you become friends and help each other make higher profits.

Now, remember....use that search string I gave you. It will help you a lot.

Make sure the blogs you post to are not 'no follow'. A way to check is to view the source and ctrl F to find if there is no follow is anywhere in the html.

Yeah, It would really stink to put a blog comment on a PR5+ no-follow blog with 20,000 avid readers who might think your comment had great content, and just might click to your blog. It always stinks when that happens.

No Follow is ONLY important if your ONLY purpose is Google Ranking. If your purpose is RANKING plus TRAFFIC plus NAME RECOGNITION, do not become too focused on Follow/No-Follow, become focused on putting comments and links where your audience lives.

When commenting, make sure your answer is well related to the blog post.

Before even thinking about your backlinks, think about building a relationship with the blog owners. Choose a certain number of blogs to comment to, and stick to that lot for a while, get yourself known, then move on to the next.

Building a good relation with blog owners can go a long way in your link building campaign!

    Hope this helps

Also, you could use "Fast Blog Finder" - there is a free version.

I only do commenting on blogs that are related to my niche. Many successful and highly respected people recommend this including Super Affiliate, Lynn Terry. As for the "No Follow" debate - I do comment on those as well.

Again, there are some strong opinions on both sides of the fence. The best advice I could offer you is to do some Google research on the subject and decide which plan of action will work best for your business model.

There's only one commenting strategy that works on my blog: Leave a useful comment.

If it looks like spam, smells like spam, or reads like spam it gets deleted.

I suggest not using keywords in the name in an attempt to get some nice anchor text. That tends to be a huge red flag. Use your name, or the name of your blog/website.

If someone leaves a one liner comment, unless they're a regular commenter, that comment gets consigned to spam.

Most bloggers are heartily sick of spam appearing in their comments. It wastes a lot of time, and much of it is extremely distasteful and sometimes illegal. Leave a useful comment. That's what bloggers want.

The relationship between the type of blogs commented on and the value derived from the backlink vary enormously from person to person, primarily according to their pre-existing beliefs on the subject.

For me (and of course this may not apply to others here with different beliefs):-

    (i) The difference in value between context-relevant and non-context-relevant backlinks is so dramatic that although they don't have to be in the same niche as my site, I certainly wouldn't bother at all with any that weren't, and ...

(ii) On my own testing in several different niches, there was absolutely no difference at all between the overall values of no-follow and do-follow backlinks, so although I have the Firefox gadget installed and can see at a glance whether a page is no-follow or do-follow, I haven't actually looked at it for a year, because this simply isn't relevant to me in the slightest (and I've been pleased to see the SEO experts I trust and rely on, both here and elsewhere, explaining that that "ought" to be so, anyway).

Conclusion: if I can comment usefully and productively on a blog in my niche in a way which adds value to that blog, I'll always do it, without checking no-follow/do-follow.
