Newbie needs help deciding on the best Wordpress theme to develop for adsense, amazon, articles, etc. Thanks so much for your help!

  For free themes, you could try Atahualpa or Flexibility. they both are pretty easy to use and can be configured a number of different ways.
  
  With Atahualpa, there is a member here whose forum name is rosetrees who has an atahualpa tutorial.
  
  It is a pretty nice theme and while I do not have her tutorial I am assuming it is every bit as well done as her posts in the forum.

  while thesis and Atahualpa are quite good themes, they
  may have too may options for a 'newbie'
  
  the 2010 theme that comes with wordpress I think too many
  overlook as it is the 'default' theme. it has some built in
  features that even some of the 'premium' themes lack. I love
  that you can have a different header for each page if you want,
  and there is even a plugin to further enhance that ability.
  
  it is not as difficult to set up as some and is flexible enough
  to 'do' the various different types of sites that you mention.
  
  plugins are another consideration, as the right plugins can
  make even a basic theme quite a powerhouse.
  
  regardless of the theme...you still need great content to make
  a site successful.

One popular freebie for adsense is heatmap:

It's based on the Google heatmap - where people's eyes flow across the screen when they first land on a page.

I hate all "the best..." questions for some reason. They just don't make sense. What is the best for you can be the worst for me. And vice-versa.

Furthermore, those are 4 different types of sites:
1. adsense
2. amazon
3. articles
4. etc

It would, probably, be wise to have different setup for those blogs...

Finally, the theme should be your last worry when preparing to build a site.

There were many good suggestions but I think on every account the user needs to purchase another theme which looks good to them, download it and start playing around with it. Also look for some online tutorials (which is key).

It is all apart of the learning process!
