SMS Service or Freelancer? How to send SMS alerts?

So I've never had a website before that had to send SMS services but this one requires it. I basically have a niche that captures incoming information into a lead database and then resells that info on another site to targeted buyers. I want the targeted buyers who register to pay for these leads to have the option to be notified if a new lead meets their criteria via email or SMS alert. The email part is easy. Having never used any sort of service to do this...

Who would/have you used and how would you go about it? What are my options as far as SMS?

Is it any more complicated to have these notifications set up by a freelancer than email messages?

Thanks all.

If its opt in and you have the information (phone number and carrier ) that you are sending to you can use software to send the messages. You can set up groups, schedule messages etc.. have a look at NotePage Pro

Check out Twilio. Their service is super easy to use and you only pay for what you use.

Thanks for the thanks I've been a long time lurker and finally starting posting - this helps my rep.

Sidenote, GroupMe (an app that's developed with Twilio's API) just landed $10.3M in funding. Pretty cool that you can use the same technology for $0.02/text message.
