What is better than Godaddy?
 

Hey guys,

I am going to buy a website today, but, wanted to find out what you would recommend. I have been using Godaddy, and, have purchased their one year of hosting, but, everyone tells me that Godaddy is much harder to use.

That being said, this is an experiment, and, I don't know if this experiment will be successful or not - so, I want to let this be as cheap as possible.

I need a domain/hosting for one site for one year.

Godaddy isn't harder than any other service, but I'll second Hostgator.

The prices with most reputable registrars is about the same for most common tld's.

Godaddy has the most upsells, but I use them anyway. Namecheap sometimes is a little bit cheaper, but I don't like their interface.

If you really have Godaddy hosting for a year, then you are stuck with that. But if you don't consider hostgator for your hosting and Godaddy for your domain registration.

I buy domains at Namecheap, and host with Hostgator.

No matter which service you use, you can always find a video on youtube to show you exactly how to do whatever it is that you might need help with.

Godaddy is great for domains and Hostgator is best for hosting. Its always better to have your domains and hosting with different companies.

Better than GoDaddy? If you're talking hosting, most anybody! :)

But GoDaddy does offer some seriously good domain name prices, especially if you opt for a dot-info or dot-us, say. For dot-coms, Namecheap is worth comparing. Once you buy the domain there, go in and change the nameserver numbers to your chosen host, and you're all set.

My vote for hosting is Hostgator. Easy cPanel, and if you get stuck, they have a free online chat service with a techie who can sort it out for you.

I have a vote for Hostgator too, they are great. I love how easy it is to use. For domain names, I've found some really good ones at Namecheap and also I just had 2 pushed to be on Name.com.

I use godaddy for names and scalahosting.com Cheap Reseller Hosting, Affordable reseller hosting, Quality reseller hosting, Reseller program, Cpanel reseller hosting, Host reseller (3 bucks a month when you buy 12 months worth)

full cpanel, unlimited domains etc

I used to have hostgator but found this with the same features for a lot less dosh. If your noob you might want to stick to HG - support is excellent there. Have not needed support at scala yet

I buy domain in yahoo, for hosting i use bluehost/hostgator

Godaddys hosting is indeed terrible. Any cpanel host that answers their support live chat will be fine for a website that gets less than 100 visitors per day.

After you exceed 100, I would recommend westhost or vps.net

I don't know what the noise about godaddy is. People come here and rank about their upsell and downsell and middlesell and everything you can imagine! I've got 27 domain names with them and I've not heard a complaint after my initial learning curve. That said, I'll go with godaddy untill I have something against them!

For webhosting, can someone please tell me any host better than hostgator? Terrific customer care, nice cpanel, easy to use tools,....seriously, if there's a better host, please let me know and I'll consider moving away after successfully installing/setting up 25 websites without hassle!

I think it's good practice to separate your domain registrar from your hosting provider. So if you buy a domain at Godaddy, then I'd host the website anywhere but Godaddy. Hostgator is a good choice, but you certainly aren't limited to just that.

I'd agree with other posts here, GoDaddy for domains and Hostgator for hosting thats what Ive been doing for several years now and works well

I am using Godad now and I dig the interface, plus they have 24/7 customer service for when I'm not nerdy enough to figuring things out.

If you wer patient enough to wait for me to post, you won't regret it as to getting cheap hosting and fully featured unlimited account, I'll give you a clue as to which host I am talking about. They host me? ........LOL, its a joke.:D

I use Namecheap as a registrar and Hostgator for hosting and recommend both, especially for their customer support.

The board here, as in many forums, is covered with horror-stories about GoDaddy hosting (a "search" is very revealing).

The important thing is to register and to host in two different places.

It's by far the best hosting service, and there was one point of time where their live chat had 2 users(Me and another guy) and 57 persons taking calls!!!!!

Goddady uses non-standard configutations, I tend to avoid them for hosting. I get domains from them but not hosting.

Hostgater has serious issues with uptime and support. Plus, using a bargain/discount host is asking for trouble.

I use MediaTemple and love their service. I've only had one outage in 4 years of hosting there and the response was to give everyone that was affected a year of credit on their account. Completely stand-up people.

I recommend them to anyone that asks.

I use hostgator for hosting and internetbs.net for domains. Im not against godaddy and i dont have any problems with them in particular but I find the domain price of the latter cheaper than them. Use a separate hosting so you wont lose everything once you run into problems with your domain provider.

My hosting company is Just Host, their cpanel is probably one of the best, fast loading very clear and everything on one page in one place.

Technical support is by email within 1 hour, usually less, they will answer your questions, but you must be very specific at all times, one question per ticket best, I think the Tech guys may be Eastern European.

So far they have been excellent with only one server crash just before Christmas.


I also have hosting with Go daddy (long story, don't ask) and make these comparisons:


First the good:
Support is by phone (local rates) and the tech guys are American, they are really helpful and really know their stuff, Go daddy excel here and I doubt there is anyone better.
Well done GD!

Now the not so good:
The whole site needs a good sorting out, it is messy and unintuitive, very slow to load (at least from where I am) and the cpanel is not brilliant.
Everything is all over the place, it's awful.
Recently they have tidied it up a bit but it is still too 'busy'.
This is only my opinion, and I did send them feedback to the same effect.

I have not used Hostgator, but have only ever read good things about them, they seem really good, but I think even they had a crash the other day?, sure I read that somewhere.

They did - some of my sites were down very briefly yesterday. They also had another crash a month or two earlier in which none of my sites was apparently affected. This is pretty unusual for them, though. Yesterday was actually the first time I've ever noticed one of my sites "down".

I've also seen much praise for and little criticism of HostMonster and JustHost.

Well I think godaddy is very nice and OK for me. But I guess we all have different experiences. If you like you can try namecheap too they are good at least for the fact that you can use paypal even for recurrent payments without any Credit card attached to your paypal account and that is a feature that godaddy is lacking and that in my opinion is driving away some of their customers

Hmmm, when Just Host when down G decided to drop my site 17 pages, and this lasted for five days before it went back up to where it was.

Godaddy is probably the worst decision you can make as an internet marketer.
If you are using godaddy then your decision was based soley on price and you did not do any research as far as what service will be best for your internet business.

I Use D9hosting. Thy have always done right by me.
Hosting is too important to just look for the cheapest price.
I think hosting is one of those business investment that you must carefully select based on quality of service rather than price. Unless you could care less about whether or not your websites stay up.

Just my opinion.

I used to use Godaddy (unless they are running a special like today) but all new domains and renewals I am doing through Internet.bs

As far as hosting goes...I moved from Godaddy to Hostgator 3 years ago and I have no complaints.

I would be buy/register domain names at godaddy or more preferably namecheap but NEVER hosting. That simply is not their cup of tea. They are good at domains but not when it comes to hosting.

If you want this to be as cheap as possible, then go to w w w .co .cc, get a Free Domain Name, Free Hosting. I am not sure about hosting, have never used their free option, but the domains are Free although .co.cc TLD

Beware of cheap hostings. I have a few. Just yesterday I got my websites up after 2 days of my server being down. Two times already this month. No good.

I also have a hosting account with Network Solutions. Never a single problem. Let me say that again, NEVER, and I have had it for several years now. I am switching everything to Network Solutions slowly. Their control panel is not CPanel or a usual one, but you get use to it.

Whew! GoDaddy will never get another cent of my money EVER. Horrible, on all counts. The ONLY thing I can say good about them (and this is reaching) is that their on-hold music is quite interesting. Hate GoDaddy -- and they'll steal your good domain ideas, too, if you don't buy at the time you search availability. Ask me how I know.

I use DynaDot as registrar. Yes, a bit more expensive, but not much for a small handful of domains, and IMO much more professional and easier to use as well.

Don't quite get the HostGator bandwagon either. I've got hosting for well under $10/mo., unlimited domains, with absolutely superb 24/7 tech support by phone at BlueHost which also has CPanel, just like HostGator, so they're equivalent in that regard. I have HostGator too and am going to be moving those domains over to BlueHost shortly.

Another vote for HostGator/Bluehost. I use them both and like them equally.

We've had a few clients on GoDaddy's shared windows hosting, and although I've heard the horror stories, we've had no problems with them.

My brief experience with MediaTemple was a nightmare... they have some major MySql resource sharing issues. It ran a small ZenCart install about 5 times slower than HostGator.

I buy domains though GoDaddy, as they offer the best email plans for me. I host with HostGator, the best for hosting in my opinion.

I would recommend using GoDaddy for your domain name. All you need to do is point your domain name to your host. As a host for your site, Hostgator is Great. Hope this helps.

For hosting I personally use bluehost and I've never looked back. I'm not sure exactly what it is about them that I prefer over hostgator, which I've also used in the past, but there is something.

I also buy all my domains through bluehost too, I find the prices are always a little cheaper than on godaddy.
