Can anybody recommend some good software that enables a non-programmer to easily create software?

Please PM me any recommendations.

Thomas Belknap has a very good solution called Tiger Software Builder. Very solid stuff. Next version will have reporting and exporting. Looking forward to it. Check out his demo.

I've used Mike Chen's Create your Own Software but it hasn't been updated in years...which is a shame because I had a lot of ideas for it.

Don't try to create your own software unless you want to create a very, very simple application or an eBook. You either need to learn programming or hire a programmer. I recommend the latter - try Rentacoder, Getafreelancer, Scriptlance, Elance, etc.

Your question is hard to answer because i don't think those who do not know to program
has the ability to create a software in a snap, it takes time to learn and understand how the creation of programming works.

I recommend you to hire a programmer for now and if the world of programming charms you start googling for more info on whats interests you best.

If you think your programming idea is not that hard to accomplish PM me with the details, i might have a solution for you.

Is he even still around? I remember in early July he was talking about the update his software coming and it being in Beta stages.

I've been waiting for it! And hopefully it is able to fix the constant "error popups" that software has in Vista!

His last email update was on August 27th...
"Hello, Thomas Belknap here. I wanted to give you a quick
update on the Software Builder. I am close to finishing
this up and releasing the beta version. I am hoping in the
next 2 weeks. I finally figured out a problem that halted
the project and now it will be even better than the demo I
created for you. I really thank you all for your patience
and am positive this is an investment that will pay you
        back 1000 times more."

Still around. I am not sure why you are getting constant Vista errors unless you didn't follow the instructions for installing on Vista. I hopefully have a workaround anyway that will alleviate those problems totally. We will find out in the Beta testing.

The poster above mentioned you sent out an email, but I never received that email! Could you please add me to the list of paid users so I can receive the update notice when it comes out? I never received any previous emails.

Frankly, Keith is right. They don't TRY to make programming hard. In fact, today, it seems TOO easy. Programming in PHP over the web with SQL is FAR easier than COBOL using curses on a terminal with ISAM. And THAT is far easier than the earlier using COBOL on a terminal with flat files. Of course, with PHP you STILL have protection issues, compatibility issues, installation issues, and you can't just have 2 users try to update the same heirarchies at the same time. Such a thing can turn into what the software industry actually calls a "deadly embrace"! The top two entries in google show it! That is just a fact of life.

    "deadly embrace" - Google Search

And that is without even specifying computers!

    +database +"deadly embrace" - Google Search

M/S SQL, and some others, even cause the longest running query to fail if a deadlock occurs for too long.

I have yet to see a program that allows the flexibility of most languages. If you DO get a program to write your own software, get an idea of what you want to do, and the platform, and make sure the package can do it.

Personally IMO if you want quality software or apps, then it is best left to the professionals. Go thru Elance or Getacoder and set up a project, define the terms of the project and the stats, what you want in the software, and then let the bidding begin. I just had a killer script down for personal use for $50.00. It was well worth the money.

    Cheers!
