One of the common threads we see here are the various "don't you hate..." posts:

"Don't you hate all those lazy newbies that don't want to put in the hard work!"

"Don't you hate all those gurus who withhold their secrets!"

Well, I figure it's time for my own pet hate (of the moment, anyway ): Don't you hate all those posts (including WSOs... especially WSOs!) like:

"I made $64,000 in 24 hours on Clickbank"

"My $1895 hour"

"If you aren't doing six figures a year you're a loser!"

Okay, maybe nobody literally says the last one, but they may as well!

Maybe some of you see these titles as motivational. I suppose they could be if presented in the right way. But what they tend to do for me is make me doubt my success. I'm making a decent living in this business. It's not riches (not yet!) but I'm doing better than the 90% who never manage a penny in IM.

I wonder about the effect on the poor guys that are still waiting on their first sale and wondering if it's ever going to pay off?

Before everyone tells me to "get real" I should say that I know these claims are just part of the biz. I might even join in when I get there!

But it's food for thought.

Well I always see newbies asking the simplest question which they can readily Google for the answer, yet they instead ask it in forums. What is PR? What is SERP? What is SEO? - and a lot other stuffs.

they instead ask it in forums
...and their signature sees the light of day one more time.

      Go figure!

I try not to let myself "hate". It's too draining. I try to focus on the things I like.

So if I find those "Make $9,641 with CB this month" type posts annoying I try to stop myself and realize that they must work if people keep using them. I like things that work. Then I can try to understand the market better and why certain things work the way they do.

Those posts/WSOs get attention. Ever stop to think about why that is? Remember the copywriting formula AIDA?

      Attention, Interest, Desire, Action

These titles take care of the first step in the formula. The flow must continue from there. But getting the attention is like shifting the car out of park. It MUST be done FIRST.

    Hey David,

Yea, some of those headlines come across a bragging and disparaging. I believe that a more effective way to word these would be to say:

"Wow! I just had an $18,000 day, and I am going to show you how to do it, too!" (or "I'll show you, step by step, how I did it.")

If they would word it in a "You can do it, too", positive attitude, I think they would see more sales and less resentment.

"I can" is much more important than I.Q.

    David,

I also have a pet hate.

This is threads that should be posted in the appropriate forum but are not.

Such as this one and the OT forum.

      Hi David,
Maybe some of you see these titles as motivational. I suppose they could be if presented in the right way. But what they tend to do for me is make me doubt my success. I'm making a decent living in this business. It's not riches (not yet!) but I'm doing better than the 90% who never manage a penny in IM.
There is a positive side to this. Many times in business, other peoples' opinions will catch your attention, and if you are not resolute and steadfast about your plan and your aims, then they might knock you off course or send you into a loop where you jump from one thing to another.

I fell into this trap previously, until I learnt to take everything but my own intuition with a pinch of salt. And it's these 'distractors' that I have to thank for teaching me the lesson in the first place.

Once I learnt to follow my own plan (no matter what I read elsewhere) and and adopted and reinforced an attitude that said that as long as I was happy, fulfilled and moving forward (and living the total freedom lifestyle that I required) then the amount of noughts on the end of my income was entirely irrelevant and other people making claims about their income was about as important to me as what is occurring this week on the TV soap operas.

Consequently, I don't hate those posts. I just generally ignore them because they're often the least useful and usually just a weak attempt by someone to position themselves as successful in order to sell products.

Well, you must totally despise a ton of my posts.

I have made many posts detailing (sometimes in explicit detail) how I made
$X in Y amount of time.

I absolutely hope that they are motivational and instructional.

But hey, if they're not your cup of tea...don't read them. Nobody is forcing
        you to.

I guess what I hate is people who try to force THEIR belief system of what
is proper and not proper for a post on this forum.

Nobody forces anybody to read any posts here.

So, don't like the "how I made $X" posts? Don't read them.

Don't like the "What do you think about..." posts? don't read them.

Don't like the "Rant about..." posts? Don't read them.

I certainly don't read every post on this forum. Some things just don't
interest me, but I don't go around bitching about them because they're
of no value to me. I just ignore them.

For every person here who dislikes a "how I made $X" post, I am sure
there is one person who gets something out of it.

Especially if the post itself has some solid information on how it's done.

Now you might want to read my "How I make $X Per day" thread...or not.

        It's entirely up to you.

and - don't you hate - all those emails that start " I lied", "I've got to apologise", etc, etc. Yeah, yeah. I'm afraid I delete them immediately.
And one I received today - along the lines of - the is the bestest piece of software ever - was it - well, not exactly, it was a standard Clickbank product!!! I've almost stopped reading most of the email I receive from lists.

Come on guys, try something more original!

lol you have a good point. But then again, you're probably a well-versed internet marketer, so you know and understand how it all works. However, if you have a list composed of mainly newbies, then these headlines are quite effective.

Some of the posts are legitimate...

You know there really are people that have major success online.

To answer your question: No - I don't hate those posts.

People should be encouraged to buy good, bad, and over-hyped products. There is always something that can be learned from them.

If it's bad - You will learn from the mistakes

If it's good - You can use to improve in areas you lack in

If it's over-hyped - You will learn why people are inclined to buy it... or not buy it.

It's the same concept with rap music. If you don't like it... don't listen to it.

If you don't like those types of posts... don't read them.

Does anyone actually believe those then?

If I was making that much every 24 hours
I'd be too busy spending it to write about it.
