Is Valentines a big IM day?

Is it worth trying to optimise some sites towards selling for valentines day?

If so what sort of gifts normally get sold? is it even worth it?

    Valentine's Day is HUGE. People typically spend at least $50 or more on gifts for this holiday, so that translates well. Some of the typical gifts are things like pajamas and lingerie, jewelry, flowers, candy, event tickets, balloons, travel accommodations, engraved items, etc.. People in relationships are compelled to buy Valentine's Day gifts, and often overspend to cover their butts. It's definitely worth optimizing for, in my opinion.

    Think about it. Every year there are tons of new couples, clueless about what to buy for each other or needing ideas about how to celebrate together. There are long-term couples looking for something fresh and unique for the partner they've been with for years. Lots of people get married on Valentine's Day, so you could optimize strictly for Valentine-themed weddings. You could also do a complete 180 and appeal to all the lonely hearts who plan singles' parties or "Love Stinks" celebrations on or around Valentine's Day.

    Any or all of these is a potential cash cow, and they don't have to be strictly Valentine-based sites. Add anniversary gifts to a gift idea site and it suddenly becomes evergreen. Other seasonal or holiday wedding ideas can also help you keep the commissions rolling in year-round if you go that route, etc.. You're getting to the party a little late for a Valentine's Day site this year, but if you're into it you should definitely get to work.

    It's HUGE. It's good to plan ahead (about 1-3 months ahead, unless you plan on buying traffic).

    As far as gifts, think about what people typically buy. Flowers, candy, jewelry, vacation trips, etc.

    It's only worth it if you know what you're doing, meaning you know to set this up and test your conversions rapidly.

    Jewelry, flowers, dating (both dating sites and "win back your ex" info products), etc...

    The downside is that unless you're targeting super long tail keywords, you probably don't have enough time yet to get ranked for kws that'll bring in a lot of Valentine's Day purchases. I usually plan at least 2-3 months ahead of time to take advantage of seasonal promotions.

      I second or third taht idea that it might be a little late unless you buy traffic or use long tail keywords.

      I love seasonal sites, and I have abunch of them that I really enjoy working on and they make my holidays even brighter.

      I think more like oppostie day. If its in February, get your site togetehr by August, tehn spend your time promoting it.

      Right now, for me it is time to emphasize promoting my summertime sites.

      But the best time to get leyword phrases for Valentines Day is right after the holiday, snag all you can using any kind of tools you have.

        i think Google (at least) disregards the same identical link location after the first time it's listed on a page :-P so it's only counted once
