Removing WP's 1st/Automatic Post?

I just put up a little blog and want to publish my first page. But WP creates a "Hello World!" post as your "Home". The last time I tried it (a year or so ago), I deleted it and then tried creating my own Home page, and I ran into trouble.

I vaguely remember something about first having to create your own Home (page or post), and then deleting their Home post.

I deleted theirs first, and then couldn't create a Home page.

Anyway, I'm obviously confused, so would somebody clue me in?

Thanks,
Richard

There shouldn't be an issue now days to delete all posts.

I have never had such trouble though it might depend on the theme you're using.

I have always deleted their automatic post before creating mine.

    However, WP acts funny sometimes.

Oh yes, I remember when this happened to me. Yikes, it was a nightmare for the newbie I was. From that experience a few years ago I got into the habit of first creating my own initial post, which is entitled anything BUT "Hello World!" and then delete the default post. You certainly can't go wrong doing this. One nice thing is that the ridiculous default comment is automatically deleted in one fell swoop when you delete the default Hello World post. So I have stuck with this habit for the sake of efficiency.

Remember to edit your about page, too.

Just delete the post and away you go... I'm not sure what you mean by "create a homepage" because your posts actually become your homepage when you are talking about a WP Blog as opposed to a static HTML site.

Your posts do not have to be your homepage. You can have a static homepage.

'Hello World' is a post and by default your posts are set as the 'home' page. IF you prefer having a page as 'home' you can change this in the settings.

Is there some kind of benefit to deleting 'hello world'? I always just overwrite it.
