How many of you prefer Wordpress for your sites?

What are the reasons you prefer Wordpress for your websites or blogs?

Here are mine:
  • It's extremely easy to navigate on the front end as well as admin panel
  • It's got plugins that can improve your site in just about every way with a single click
  • It's very easy to customize
  • There are tons, and I mean tons of designs (aka themes) that you can use (both free and paid). These themes can make your site look like a blog, youtube, photoblog, landing page, etc
  • You can get a designer to make a custom theme for under ~$100
Basically, Wordpress is usually my choice simply because it is appealing to everyone, easy to use, versatile, SEO friendly, and cheap to customize! If you do not use Wordpress, what CMS do you use and why?

I like wordpress and static sites both.

Wordpress is good for starting out, and static websites give you more control on layout etc.

I created custom CMS templates for iweb. paired with the free tool iweb SEO and I can't go wrong. I like doing all my work offline, and then just posting it with one click.

Do you mean just plan HTML for static sites? I'm guessing that is sort of like a landing/sales page layout? If so, I've seen some nice free wordpress theme that are like that.

I agree though, Wordpress is great for those just starting out. You can literally have yourself a complete and functioning self-hosted wordpress website in under 5 minutes.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to look into it. I have a mac computer, works like a champ! (I'm on a windows comp at the moment though).

Same here, I think that may be why I'm partially so attached to it. Unless I'm coding a site from scratch, it's always my top choice.

I use Wordpress almost exclusively unless I need a 1 page site. Many people see Wordpress only as a blogging platform and don't realize that it is quite possible & easy to make a Wordpress driven website with static pages which is not a blog at all. As for having total control, Wordpress pretty much allows that via the ability to manually edit various theme files.

I tried other CMS platforms (Drupal, Joomla etc.) but concluded that even though they are versatile in their own right, they simply are not as mainstream as Wordpress in terms of third-party offerings, support, and ability to construct sites for resell.

I agree, As long as you have a base template and some prewritten articles, basically 3 clicks and your site is done!

I can agree with this. I'm shocked every day by the amount of people who have no clue wordpress has the ability to do static posts (which you can make into a static page). I too tried Joomla, and while I understand the basics, I do not feel it is NEAR as straight forward as wordpress. I mean you click something call "post" and then "add post" to make a post, how much clearer can it get?

Yeah, this does happen occassionally I've noticed. Some plugins use different variations of the same coding so it can cause problems, but it's generally a simple fix. The great thing too is that there are usually multiple plugins for everything, so if one doesn't work you can always use the next.

Also, I love that themes are free for the most part! Even premium themes like the ones by Web2feel and WPcrunchy are free, and they are great! Not to mention the stock theme directory on Wordpress.

The amount of flexibility you get from Wordpress - combined with the ease of use - makes it a no-brainer.

I use Wordpress for Websites, websites with blog attached, membership sites, and more. The password protect of posts or pages feature is a very simple feature you can learn in less than 60 seconds that you can use to your advantage in your online business.

I also have a site that I program in HTML. There are too many pages on that site to convert to Wordpress....it's been established too long. So I have a direct comparison - and there's no comparison. Wordpress is so much easier and more powerful and quicker to use.

Wordpress is my first choice for a content repository for communicating with clients and generating SEO love.

A static webpage is my first choice for a site of only a few pages which needs to load fast, reduce server load, and does not require all of the features of Wordpress.

Explain to me why you want to use a database engine driven site to present a single page landing page? Ask your hosting company their opinion....

I've been using WordPress for at least 2 years now, with remarkable results.

Things changed a lot since then, but only for the better: more and more plugins and themes emerged only to make it even more customizable than ever before. The main software is regularly updated - and the dynamic structure can only help in the search results - by bringing your site closer to all the Web 2.0 requirements.

WP has developed into an excellent launch platform for any personal or even business site - not only blog; I mean, look around: who heard about Joomla lately?

I can understand why Wordpress is so popular. There is a lot of flexibility and things can be changed around and re-vitalised very quickly.

I do wonder why people use it for small, one-page applications like squeeze pages though. A waste of a database, that.

Wordpress is wonderful! I used to have my sites as regular websites years ago. One day, I just decided to try changing one over to a Wordpress blog, and I was in love lol. I only have a couple of sites now that aren't Wordpress, but will soon be changing them over also.

Wordpress just makes things so much easier. It's easy to set up, easy to use, so flexible. It's so easy to use that even a newbie can learn it fairly quickly.

Can you imagine an internet world without Wordpress?

I am not saying that my blog is #2 in Yahoo first page result for just using Wordpress.

Could anyone here actually help me out with my site? ( soccerjaw.com ) I've been working on, I'm very new to Wordpress and I still haven't been able to figure out exactly what I had pictured in my mind. I ultimately would like this site to have a nice clean layout that includes a place where I can write articles and have a forum at. please pm me if you can help!

I used to use XSitePro a lot, but not so much anymore. It was one of teh first commercial web design tools that used templating and tokening on a large scale basis.

I still have some sites on that and I love them. And they rank well.

I have moved more to wordpress becasue I got the Flexsqueeze theme and that has turned out to be a good time saver and it is pretty easy to work with.

Now WP is much more like a CMS like joomla was designed to be but for me it is a lot easier to use than joomla.

If it is a site that requires frequently changed content, I use Wordpress. If it is a minisite or a review site, where content changes a little over time, I use static HTML. And for e-commerce, I typically go with Magento.

I find this post a bit disingenuous. Your title asks one question, while your opening line suggests that everyone already agrees and prefers WP. And lo and behold, there's a coupon in your sig for "Wordpress hosting". Wow, what a happy coincidence.

Since you're relatively new around here, I'll let someone else sort out whether this is on the level or just another promotion in the discussion area.

I use WP where I think it's appropriate. In my case, that's blogs and sites I intend to make authority sites with regularly updated content in quantity.

For small, static sites that rarely or never change, give me plain old HTML any day of the week. There's no messing with updating constantly, worrying about plugins breaking or leaving security holes, themes with lousy SEO, etc.

I like word press. Fact is, setting it up is easy. However, Google penalizes my wp sites and gives them lower ranking than similar static HTML pages. For this reason, and many more - I prefer static HTML when creating pages.

Also, wp is hated by hosting companies. That is because mysql is a resource pig.

I've been involved with development for a long time and I can say WP can be used to do most everything you want. There is no limitation in design once you get to know how templates work and modifying plugins to fit your needs is fairly straight forward if you know some PHP.
This site is being developed on WP and contains e-commerce abilities: Old Cranky Bitch with a vexing view of the world. CrankyBitch.com

My games download section is developed on WP also with modified plug-ins and a customized automatic game updates module. Download PC Video Games | Best PC Game Downloads

The biggest issue is server load. But if you have a dedicated or virtual dedicated server, speeds seem to be pretty good. The one other issue is you have to use care when performing updates. So far I haven't had any trouble. I love the automation abilities for performing backups, malware scans, etc.. WP also puts a lot of effort into security, which is important in today's world.
