Outsourcing in General: Good or Bad?
I am in a country where BPO is one of the major businesses here but personally, I don't like this kind of business. There is a negative and positive effect but in general, I believe the effect would be catastrophic.
For Small Business / Entrepreneurs like us (IMers), outsourcing I think has positive result because we can expedite our job while paying less. If you are an American IMer, I don't think outsourcing your article writing, backlinking, and other promotional activities could hurt US job market - Good effect of outsourcing
But for corporations like Verizon, HP, Dell, AT&T, and others, I think outsourcing their jobs to my country, India, and others could paralyze US economy. And we know what happen to the whole world when US economy fall.
I worked in a call center for 3 years as a Verizon DSL tech support and one of the reasons why I left that job was my conscience. I felt that I was taking away American job... I remember one time a customer told me that I stole his job, and I was stunned and felt guilty.
In my country, though outsourcing is a major economic provider, it makes our politicians more lazy and corrupt, and depreciating our new graduates' morale. I could not imagine an engineer or a nurse here working in a call center.....
Big corporations - BPO is bad
Small business (IM jobs) - BPO is good
These corporations are supposed to provide american jobs, not foriegn jobs.....
