How Do YOU Promote Dating?

I've been promoting dating and live cams for almost a decade. I come from the dark side though lol ... the adult industry.

I'm assuming there are other dating promoters here. How do you promote dating in the mainstream world? I have lots of ideas myself but I'd rather see what you have to say first.

I'll just add to this post while waiting.

I would guess one of the top ways of mainstream promotion would be articles and blogs.

I notice a surprising number of mainstream dating blogs in the SERPS.

Perhaps some of you push dating on your non-dating sites? Say, perhaps, if you have a portal site, for instance.

personally i would create a site offering dating advice.. some (a lot) static articles, a forum, a blog... and hopefully after a few years i can buy a cool house in ireland lol!
on a generic portal site i'd go for a normal geo'd header-link ("meet a hottie in your area..").

      ha ha

      These are good ideas!

I like your first idea best. I'll add a spin on it though. I would select a dating niche. I think you could easily dominate a dating niche in this way. The site would be very useful and you're employing lots of features loved by google.

    I don't promote dating.

But if I did, I'd create a condescending site that told people they weren't allowed to date, that hand-holding is bad, etc.

Based on patterns I've seen with parents who've used that approach with their kids, I'd have to think that my results in getting people to date - online or otherwise - would be incredible.

    :-)

In all seriousness, yeah - I'd niche it up. I'd focus on product creation, using feeder products as a way of leveraging affiliate traffic, and then on the backend communications I'd recommend other aff stuff.

Just like basically any niche market approach.

      Ha Ha I love it!

Being a dad of two daughters myself I absolutely KNOW this approach would work. LOL

      Anyone else?

i used to have a range of dating sites but i sold them a few years ago. it was the first website i owned i actually originally bought it from ebay!!!

i just added it to lots of directories, wrote articles and got someone to do some seo for me.

i also wrote ebooks about related subjects i.e. things to when your single or leaving university, starting your 1st job etc.

once you put pen to paper im sure you can come up with many.

This is excellent. Thanks for the contribution.

I actually have a friend who used to sell dating sites on ebay so maybe it was one of his! lol

The method you describe is still a very viable way to go. Although I would advise creating your own site nowadays (since it's easy and free).

What I REALLY like is you writing ebooks to promote your main site. I know about this but don't personally know anyone doing it. Seems to me like an excellent idea. What you could also have done is add these ebook links to the bio boxes of your articles.

      Good stuff!

            Cool will do.

Do you guys still allow creation of custom landing pages that lead straight to a join page?

We sure do. I actually like to do that myself. We have dozens of landing pages to choose from and join pages. It's great to pre-sell your targets like that.

Edit : When you do join, just email me and let me know who you are. That way I can take care of you.

  • I actually just started promoting dating recently but had no idea how to go about it.

So I decided to test an offer off cj.com to see if it actually would work.

I created a small landing page and submitted a few articles to see if people would actually sign up, and they did. SO I at least know it has potential, just don't really know if there's a better way to promote it.

I figured it couldn't be too hard to get a lead or two since they were saying it's one of the most popular niches to make money in.

I'd be happy to take a look at your landing page if you want.

Landing pages are definitely the way to go. If you want to make FAST money then I would promote free lead programs. We currently pay up to $5 for just a free lead. If you seo and market that landing page well it is easy to work your frees up to 50, 100, 200. This is why I always tell people that SEO is one of the most important aspects to IM.

      Anyway, good info.

Most adult marketers do not use articles. What they'll do is use a landing page, add a blog, and then gets lots of link backs. And like sean mentioned, we tend to target a niche, since it's much easier to compete.

Forgot to mention, you could also go for a 4+ word long-tail on a popular free hosted blogging service - get some backlinks via social bookmarking sites (bookmark each post), linkdumps and articles.. do some onpage seo and there you go. Fire and forget. One of my freehosted blogs made me $1700 just sitting there (datinggold) (6 posts, didn't update for a YEAR, still on #1 for that longtail) - talk about ROI.

Now THAT is some kickass info!

When I created this thread about dating promotion, I expected to learn about the different approach mainstream webmasters would take as opposed to adult webmasters. I didn't expect full-on game plans like this. Nice one!

Chris if you want me to review your pay rates for DG just let me know. I will get on it.

      Hi Steve,

      Another good insight.

I know a lot of people hammered Myspace in the gold rush era years back. I presume similar measures are used on other networks. I know application development is a big thing too.

PPC is something I do a lot of myself for years now. PPC and media buys. I like to buy links wherever I can. The ones that don't convert, I junk; the rest, I keep. What I've found is getting your links INSIDE member areas of adult sites is very lucrative (qualified buyers). PPC took me months and MONTHS to get the hang of. I lost more than I care to think about. Now I do well. Key is to be clever and find nice targets...its a bit like going fishing lol (terrible use of mixed metaphors there)

Paid advertising. PPV and co reg services probably best for you but CPA networks can get you all the traffic you can handle.

      Good stuff!

I know a lot of people who swear by paid advertising. It's the clever way to promote dating, really. Takes some stomach too because you have to be willing to lose in order to find the good places. I must admit I wouldn't know where to start in the real world but in adult I'll buy spots on tgps and link lists . . . and inside member areas but they dont become available very much.

Sup Kristian - I have 2 dating sites I am promoting at the moment and they do take a lot of my time that is for sure.

I have one review site with 5 dating ebook/guides I review and the other site is a blog.

All I do is write articles and contact ezine publishers. However paid advertising would probably be best. My review site is only 5 months old and my blog 1 month old so I'm still on a budget.

I also upload three ebook reports with my affiliate link onto torrent sites so they can download - my answer to guerilla marketing.

    Kristian,

I would go to forums on relationships and post to threads from people who just broke up or feel lonely. Just encourage them to stay positive and tell them that someone will come along. Then, have a cool signature that they can click on.

If you really think about it, someone is breaking up practically everyday.

    Kristian,

Are you an affiliate of DG? Like I said, my weakness is with landing pages and I wondering how you get them? Do you make your own?

Anyways, I have come across some techniques using chat rooms for promoting dating offers and no it is not the fake name, pic, etc. Looks interesting with a little twist.

For me, I think the best way would be to start a blog within a tight dating niche and market strategically.

I'm both an affiliate of DG and on staff as Affiliate Agent. I've promoted DG since 2004 and been one of their top affiliates. They asked me to join their staff this year. So now I recruit affiliates and ensure that their traffic is maximized to earn the most money. Some veteran affiliates only need me to bump up their pay rates. The newbie affiliates (or intermediate) will need me to plan everything out or just answer questions on things like seo, ppc, blogging, traffic generation, etc.

Do I build my own landing pages? Sure do. I'm not a great designer at all. But I feel that with dating you can get away with amateurish-looking pages; in fact, they often convert the best. Sometimes I'll just use a simple picture and a couple of sentences. Others I will go all out like I'm creating a CB landing page lol

I'd be happy to take a look at anything you produce and offer my opinion.

We have some fantastic info in this thread!

I didn't expect so much info. This thread would actually be pretty valuable to anyone who promotes dating. So thank you folks and lets keep it up!

I will add another method into the mix.

    Yahoo Groups.

These are free to setup and a fantastic source of leads. They also grow very quickly. What you do is setup a group around a certain dating niche. BBW dates, for instance. You then find other dating blogs and bbw blogs and just "participate", not spam. You will soon get people joining your group. The great thing here is that when you make a post it gets sent to the email address of all your members! I've made some serious money with these in the past. There is a LOT more to it than I've just mentioned but you can probably figure it out for yourself and I dont want to turn a post into an ebook. lol
