first day on the affiliate job - I got suspended

hey warriors!

so today was the first day I was promoting a product from clickbank.

the products' affiliate page had some training. I did exactly what they told me to do - promote using their strategy on yahoo answers for free traffic.

I used their exact strategy and within 5 minutes, I got suspended from Yahoo Answers..... damn.

I am contesting the suspension but we'll see where that gets me.....

I'm new to all this - where can I learn to promote my affiliate products for free legally without getting suspended??

Thanks warriors

The answers spam filters seem to be on high alert these days. It's not a fabulous source of traffic anyway.

One slower but more reliable approach is creating informative pages on free social sites like Hubpages, Blogger, Squidoo. Generally you can slip in affiliate links if you don't get too commercial and read the TOS.

Do some research on the product and how many refunds this has before spending anything. There other programs and ways to not get your account banned.

I do a search for the product name with download attached, like "Auto Traffic Hijack Download". Sometimes you will end up at blue fart forums, but you can read if a product is crap or not. There will be reviews here at wf of course, and you can look at what a person has to say. I weigh many opinions before a purchase, both blue fart and here at wf.

You can do a search for a product at clickbank too. There results for refunds there, but you have to know which percentages show how many returns there are for a product.

Were you sending people directly to the link?

If you were it's likely this is the reason for the ban, did you read the terms and conditions?
If you don't have one already get a website set up and direct your traffic there first.
    Hope this helps.

Yahoo answers take some time to figure out. At least this is what I have learned. As mentioned earlier, never send people directly to your hop page. You need to build a page, and send them there. From there direct them to your link.

Also, if you use Yahoo Answers properly you can drive a bit of traffic to your page. It just takes a black/grey hat method. Which I will not discuss or promote here because I am not really into black hat methods.

The best way to promote products is through free organic traffic from google. You do this by setting up a niche website for a keyword (search term) related to the product your going to be promoting. Once you have a niche website that is getting organic traffic from google you will be well one your way. I spent a lot of time trying many different methods from yahoo answers, facebook, and google paid ads. I wasted a ton of my time and effort only to make a few sales. You need long term consistent free traffic from the search engines to make real money promoting these type of products.

That guy who said the money is in the list is right but you need to understand what that means before you go out and try it. What it means is you need to build an email list. You do this through giving away good free content in return for the persons email. Again the best way to do this is through niche websites and organic traffic. People will find your site while searching for terms that directly relate to your niche. Then you offer them free content in exchange for their email. You do this through an auto responder. There are several services that do this but the one I use is called aweber. Once you have enough emails then you can mail your list and recommend different products and services related to the niche they are interested in.

I think the most important thing that I can stress is doing proper keyword research and setting up niche websites for terms that relate to the product your pushing. I hope that helps!

That's bad, yahoo answers comes under grey hat technique?. The better strategy would be creating articles on web 2.0 properties and referring them while answering the questions at Yahoo Answers.

We'll at least your learning, you now know what NOT to do.

Try little tests in a few different area's and then start focusing on the area/method/technique that provides the best return.

Try to provide useful content that helps people and then cross promote your product. I'd recommend you do most on this on your own website not 3rd party sites like yahoo.

You've learned your first lesson the hard way. Just like I did when I received a life ban from Adwords....

Don't skimp over the terms and conditions.

While it's a good idea to get started asap and learn as you go, always take the time to make sure you comply with things you're signing up for.

It sucks, but take it on board as a lesson and use it.

Hummm..let me see if I understand this right...

1.You located a product in clickbank you started to promote.

2.You followed their exact instructions and marketing advice.

    3.Then you got suspended!!!!

I would find another product to promote!

    Preferrably, a product that worked.

Yahoo answers is very sensitive to that type of stuff. My account was suspended 3 times.

Some people are able to manage it, but I wouldn't bother. Promote another way via blogging, article marketing, guest posting, etc.

You have to be careful with Yahoo Answers. No doubt you posted too many messages in too short a space of time so it looked like spam to them. Make sure you don't past too often, and when you do make sure it is valuable content and not spammy just to get people to click on your link.

You should not rely on Yahoo Answers as your primary source of traffic. If you're new to internet marketing in general, you probably do not know how to stay safely within Yahoo guidelines when commenting in Answers.

I'm guessing that they may have taught you some greyhat techniques which could get you banned. Suffice it to say that Yahoo Answers is not meant as a place for you to repeatedly post a high number of comments using one account, and trying to skirt around this regulation pretty much borders on using grey/black hat techniques.

Start learning other more appropriate forms of traffic generation - Yahoo Answers was never meant to be a sustained and long-term traffic source.

My opinion is that yahoo answers is actually a highly viable method for long term traffic.

Here's how to use yahoo answers properly. When you answer questions, make sure you take the time to answer the question properly, such that you would most likely be chosen as the best answer. At the bottom, include a relevant affiliate website that you're promoting that gives them an incentive to click (i.e. free course, free ebook and what not).

After a few months of regularly getting selected as best answers, i became a Top Contributor for a particular subject and that is when the traffic starts coming.

Yahoo Answers is pretty picky about promoting your own products in their answers.

You may want to try out a site like Ezinarticles. You write an article and they let your put a link to your site in the resource box of the article.

Exactly Jason, I was trying to stress my point above that Yahoo Answers in general isn't really suited to affiliate marketing. You'll run into all sorts of issues, and who wants to keep creating new accounts after the old ones are banned?

You'll have to create multiple accounts to really get any appreciable traffic, and this is obviously against Yahoo's TOS.

If say you was not using the correct measures...and got suspended,..or your post sounded too spammy... tomorrow is a new day...most people quit because of setbacks like this, but it's the ones who stick with it make money with time. This will pass if you keep going.

Unfortunately, many product owners would suggest you do things you shouldn't do. Some of them provide pretty aggressive suggestions, and without experience to help you temper their suggestions, you can get in hot water.

5 minutes to get suspended means you couldn't possibly have been answering the questions people asked. It takes more than a few hits to be suspended. Typically, you will get a notice that you have a post that's been tagged as spam. Then perhaps another before they hit you with suspension. Now, if you have no points from previous answers, and you suddenly post a bunch of answers in a very short time (perhaps 5 minutes) you will certainly get yourself suspended.

Yahoo answers can be a source of traffic, but you won't get much traffic from them, especially right away. For Yahoo answers to be a viable source of traffic at all (in my opinion) you really have to be selected as the "best answer" a fair number of times. Typically, these are the ones that seem to get indexed in the search engines.

White hat techiques for getting links into Yahoo Answers are time consuming, so you really have to want to help people, and provide a link as your source. Begin with a blog on your web site that contains real content. It should be used to generate a list, which you then use to gain the trust of your subscribers, then eventually promote products to them. (None of this is an overnight solution for generating money online.)
When you answer a question on Yahoo Answers or any other forum of that sort, you need to provide a real answer. Several paragraphs are typically needed to provide background or content that supports your answer. A "go to this link" post is not considered an answer. Once you have provided information, there is a section where you can give credit to your source. This is where you can provide a link to your blog or web site.

So how to get your answer chosen as "best"? I rely on giving a very good answer. Some people (gray hat technique follows) have multiple logins, and log in with several alternate accounts and vote on their own answers to improve their chance of being chosen "best". Personally, I feel this is stuffing the ballot box, and cannot see why Yahoo wouldn't eventually see that the same 4 accounts always like your posts and catch on, but perhaps they have bigger fish to fry...

I've done some split testing to see where my traffic comes from, by creating shortened links through one of my web sites. That way, I can track which venues are providing traffic. Generally speaking, Yahoo Answers only rarely gives me immediate traffic as a result of my answers, but it does provide a trickle that I wouldn't have had otherwise. Given that it takes me 5 to 10 minutes or so per answer, it isn't a high return on my time, but it is somewhat entertaining for me, and gives me an opportunity to hone my skills in a forum that doesn't "count" as much as some others.

Basic rules for promoting your affiliate products:

Don't post an affiliate link in the clear. Most of the answer forums like Yahoo Answers prohibit affiliate links on their sites. (Yes, I know you see them there every day, but if you use shortened links it is difficult to tell if they are an affiliate link or a link to your site). As an example, if I sent you to http://askrf.com/r/si/ you can't tell if this is an affiliate link or my blog. (As it turns out, it redirects to a video that promotes a JV Giveaway Event for Self Improvement topics.)

Generally speaking, sending traffic directly to affiliate links is considered a less than optimal practice. First, sending the prospect directly to an affiliate link is a one-shot attempt at making money. If they buy, ok. If they don't you've lost them. On the other hand, if you get them to opt-in to your list, you win in two ways. First, it is easier to get them to opt-in, especially if you give them a freebie to do so. Second, once they are in your list, you can provide them with real content and promote to them over and over. While they may not buy the first time you promote to them, you may be able to convert them to a customer down the road. A list means more chances to make them into a customer.

This very forum is one place you can learn how to legally and ethically promote your affiliate products, or your own products if you have any.
Investing some time here reading the posts can provide an incredible amount of information that can help you down the road.

Above all, don't give up. Sit back, take some time to learn what is right and what is wrong, then proceed with the knowledge that if you work at it, you too can become a successful internet marketer.

Here is the two keys to not getting suspended on Yahoo, Facebook, YouTube.....

    Follow their terms of service.

Provide quality information to the readers-viewers.

(Did you notice what is missing? I never mentioned giving them a link to an affiliate product. Just remember, "For More information" should really mean, MORE INFORMATION on your blog or web-site, which might happen to mention a product which can help them.)

I find yahoo answers a great source of traffic!

This is what I do, and have never had any issues:

      * Stick to the topic raised, and provide thoughtful and researched answers to questions that help the people posting the questions. If you are not a master of the niche, then a little research before answering certainly helps,

      * the higher quality your answer, the more chances are that you will be voted "best response"

      * Don't insert an affiliate link in every post you respond to. This just smells of spam

      * As a general guide, I'll (gently) recommend a affiliate link in every 4th or 5th answer I provide (I do mix it up on occassion).

      * I have a very high number of " best answers' relating to my niche and this helps to build a level of credibility with some readers after a while. I've also been invited to provide answers in the same niche for other webmasters who have read my responses in Yahoo Answers.

The majority of people that get banned are people that spam - ie; Irrelevant answers to questions with blatant promotional affiliate links in every response they make

Gently does it, and the results will speak for themselves.

Yahoo Answers does a good job trying to keep their answers free from spam; however, that means a lot of good Internet Marketers get caught in the cross fire.

The way to succeed on Yahoo Answers is to answer the questions as best as you can, and use the resource box to point back to an article you’ve written promoting the affiliate product.

Yahoo does not allow direct links to affiliate websites, so that maybe a reason why you got banned.

Another technique to use it to create three or four Yahoo Answers accounts and experiment until you find a technique that works.

Yahoo Answers is a great source of targeted traffic, so it is worth the investment.

You have to become an authority to reckon with on yahoo answers before you can make money on it. There is a serious eye watching new yahoo answer users and if you have a link on all your answers, you become suspect. I suggest a 5:1 ratio - so for every 5 answers you can post one link. It really is hardwork but will pay off once you reach the 2nd or third level.

There are a lot of misguided, misinformed and plain wrong answers here. I have promoted products on Y!A for years, using software very similar to the OP's.

    Here are some basic points:

This advice is separate from the people who are giving advice about 'whitehat' Y!A techniques. (No such thing in my opinion, but it makes the people feel good about themselves to call it 'whitehat') You can't use an auto-posting application and then pretend that you're whitehat - you're not. So if you are going to use blаckһаt techniques, be prepared to face - and deal with - the problems that those techniques bring you.

Your account got suspended? So what? You can get 1k accounts for $4 if you look in the right place. Load 'em up and get posting!
Contest the suspension? What the hell for? Move on, accounts are dispensible.
Basically you are spamming. If you are going to spam, make sure your posts are damned good and put a link in every single one.
Try to use level 2 accounts - they can post clickable links.
Forget any idea that your set of accounts is going to get to level 2 - it's not going to happen. Not even close.
As has been said, don't link directly to your offer, use an interim landing page to keep your referrer legit.
Use proxies - you will have no option if you are posting at a fast rate.

      THIS.

YA! Wasn't set up or created for affiliate marketers, and unfortunately (depending on how you look at it) many of the "regular" users know when you are answering to answer and answering to earn commissions.

Similar to CraigsList or Digg there are users that pretty much LIVE in there that monitor the site to MAKE SURE that "people like us" aren't pimping links trying to earn money. As soon as they see it, you get reported.

      Are there ways around it?

Sure, but none of those ways really include auto posting. When you are using software to automatically post, you should go into it KNOWING and EXPECTING that your accounts are going to be suspended...but, hoping that you get some traffic before they are

If you choose to go down that road, you are going to need HUNDREDS of accounts and a pocket full of PROXIES to really be "successful"...

Of course, YA! is a source of targeted and buying traffic in some niches, but in order to tap into it, you need to be helpful, and REAL most of the time...Not an automated bot, UNLESS as said, you have hundreds of accounts. Keep in mind though, once you decide to go that route, you are in BLACK-HAT territory - GREY HAT at best...so, don't be surprised when your accounts start disappearing.
