What are the top 5 affiliate programs on the web?

In addition to the "standard" ads such as google adsense and similar programs, we would like also to add few affiliate ads and links on our sites.
I heard that some people talk about amazon affiliates, other about hostgator ads, click bank and more.
Could someone here that do affiliate for a long time, can recommend me the top 5 programs on the net?
I would like to work with programs that are both reliable and a serious income

    If you are speaking strictly individual programs I would say that the Netflix program might be one of the most popular affiliate programs on the web currently.

    Amazon is popular because its easy to promote, and you'll get a commission from anything purchased with your referral. The problem with them is that they keep dumping states due to tax laws changing. If they keep doing it pretty soon their entire program is going to crumble.

    Program wise Commission Junction and ShareASale are two of the most popular places you can use to find affiliate programs.

    Maybe I'm backwards, but I always find a niche I can rank for first and then find profitable affiliate programs to build my site with.

    I would say commission junction and amazon, but like Mike said - find a niche, then look for an affiliate product to work with

      I have used clickbank and Amazon. I also know of commission junction and linkshare which i'm yet to use.

    Top 5 Programs based upon what?

    If your market is health related running Hostgator ads would be, how should I say this....stupid?

    If your market is games running ads for "Stop Yawning" would seem pretty odd.

    The tops 5 affiliate networks could be listed, but those are fairly useless to you unless you identify products within those networks which match your audience.

    What would I recommend as your Top 5 Programs? Take a look at your competitors sites and see what they consistently run. (Not struggling competitors, the ones who appear to be building and expanding.) Their ads will probably lead you down the right path.

    If you simply want names of networks I'd choose Amazon, Clickbank, Google, CJ, and MaxBounty (for CPA offers).

    P.S. I was really tempted to give you a list of 5 "adult market" affiliate programs. It would make just as much sense as my answer above.

    I think most profitable big networlks are mentioned. There are several topic themed ones like for travel (hotelscombined, ...). I also like promoting gambling related programs, maybe you have a look at my casino affiliate forum -> I´m on rework of this site and the community now, but generally a lot of gambling related affiliate programs are listed.

      Thanks for your reply. I checked out your forum but I'm not into gambling right now.

      I checked other affiliate forums and looks like Share-a-sale is at least on the top 10. Onesuite has its own affiliate program now. Care to check if its good enough?

    I recommend Epic Direct Network.. It's hard to get in, but have lots of well converting advertisers.
