Has The IM Niche Gone Mainstream?

I was happy to see this article on Yahoo this morning. I think it kinda validates what we're doing to the mainstream population.

What do you think?:

ways-to-make-extra-money-in-2011: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance

It's titled "7 Ways to Make Extra Money in 2011"

They mention blogging, fiverr.com, freelancing on sites like Elance, and affiliate marketing, etc.

I don't think it's mainstream. I think it's just an obvious choice to go onto one of these type of lists. Similiar to articles about losing weight in the NY. They throw in advice like "Take the stairs!". It's cookie-cutter stuff that will be repeated next year.

I don't care how often I see that stuff repeated - I love seeing articles about IM in the mainstream news, because it makes my family think I'm less crazy for "messing around online" all the time

I think people are starting to give Internet Marketers a lot more respect.

Before if you told people that you make a good portion of your income online, they would assume that you were part of some scam, or being scammed.

This is a very positive thing for internet marketers because the more mainstream Internet marketing goes, the more trust we will have from normal browsers.

yes of course its going mainstream, everything always does. I started our short sales business 3.5 years ago, nobody really knew about short sales, today its a household word. I was ahead of the curve, now every clown out there thinks they can be a real estat investor, and real estate investing education materials and website bombarded the airwaves, and the internet. it drove the PPC up, it drives up the keyword competition, and its annoying. but it happens. SO, lucky for many of you who are ahead of the game on IM and have all your systems up and running because over the next few years every tom dick and harry is flocking to "the internet" to make a living, which will drive up costs everywhere. So, may the best marketers win!

Ron, IMO, home businesses, which is really what we all have, have been
mainstream for decades. It's just that now we've taken it to the Internet.

      Think about it.

Years ago, you had Avon and Tupperware, just off the top of my head.

You had guys like Joe Karbo and his "Lazy Man" ad that many people bought
into as a way to make money from home.

You had people going door to door selling greeting cards, essentially
running that business out of their home.

I could go on and on but I think you get the point.

Now, are there maybe more people doing this stuff today than 30 years
ago? Maybe. Without cold hard stats there is no way to know.

All I do know is that back in the day, I couldn't walk two feet without
running into somebody into Avon, Tupperware, Shaklee or whatever.

I think we're more aware of it today because we've gone from our 9 to
5 jobs to this kind of life. But the life has existed for a very long time.

Long before you and I ever had an Internet connection.

It isn't comparable to the Internet Marketing, naturally. It requires a different kind of preparedness, if you try to sell intangible products online. As we can see, the World Wide Web changes everything in selling. But the basic principles of business are valid so far:

          - Income originates from relationships and rapport,

          - It's how you say, not what you say,

          - People are as they are. You cannot change them, but you can create motivation that stimulate them want to change.

      Hi Chris,

I wouldn't consider this as a problem. Perhaps you know, competition motivates you not to be lazy. So I think, it'll fill the bill.

      All the best,
