Where Did My Site Go?

Hey Guys,
Just realized a site that had a steady 800 visitors a day is no longer showing up well in google. It is showing up, and in some cases in on the second page, but some of my more competitive terms have dropped off the map.

Whats worse, is the guys who are ranking in the top 10 often have absolutely nothing to do with the search query. So essentially, I have more information about the topic (including 500 word articles, title, page, h1 seo'd), and the guys that rank in top 10 have, in some cases, as little as a tag on their blog that fits the keyword.

What gives? Is this the so called google dance taking effect. My site is 8 months old and has 130 unique articles on it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, but please don't ask to see the site, i dont need someone copying it. Thanks

Robert

If you are building backlinks , you should be experimenting the Google Dance, just keep building backlinks and it will come again to the top with more authority

It's the links. There's no dance - you just don't have enough links to keep your site up there.

That might just be it. I have been creating good quality content, but neglecting the backlink part. But, the keywords Im targeting are VERY low competition keywords, like Im talking there is in some cases 8 websites that even mention the keyword.

I guess its time to get serious about building backlinks.

If you have no back links then just build them up and your site should come back around. Take your articles (new ones) and submit them to directories to give your site some back links.

You answered your question. Google is "machine". It has errors. Sometimes, like this seems to be, stupid and annoying errors.

Open a thread over at Google Webmasters Forum and pray for a Google employee to see the mess they did and correct it next update.

    Sometimes it works.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

Well, the site is involved in the male enhancement industry, so i doubt they will look at it seriously, even though it is a serious website devoted to real issues men face.

As a matter of fact, it might even be detrimental to the site. Maybe.

Im basically going back through my site and getting rid of changes i made to it last week. I suspect that something triggered it for some reason. I removed an affiliate banner i had on every page, im making sure im not keyword stuffing, i am taking off a comment system i added to the bottom of every page, and i shrunk my images dramatically.

FYI, webmaster tools says my site is slower than 83% of other sites....Eh Geez! Could that be it?

Doubtful. It's almost certainly the links.

I have got lots of websites number 1 rankings for keywords that are not even on the site so links will definitely get you there. It's good to do the on-page stuff but the links will make or break your results.
