Declined by Ebay - Apparently I'm doing it wrong....

Hello fellow warriors,

I'm pretty much a noob at this, but I've just been declined from Ebay. I basically submitted a couple of Amazon shopping sites with automated listings so I knew there might be an issue there.

Did anyone else here have trouble signing up with ebay affiliates?

I'd appreciate any tips on what type of site I should create (without an extraordinary amount of effort) to increase my chances of acceptance.

Thanks!

Thank you for applying to the eBay Partner Network. We regret to inform you that we cannot accept your application at this time.
Like many other affiliate programs, eBay Partner Network has a thorough application vetting process to ensure a good fit between a potential affiliate and the goals of the network. There are a number of reasons why your eBay Partner Network application may have been declined. Some of these include:
  • You are not in compliance with the eBay Partner Network Agreement and/or Code of Conduct.
  • The stated website that you plan to promote us from is non-functioning or inaccessible
  • The quality of your stated website is not in line with our network standards
  • The information you submitted in your application (contact information and your description of how you plan to promote eBay Partner Network) is incomplete or unclear
  • Your business model or stated website does not appear to be one that would attract eBay buyers (the eBay Partner Network does not currently provide commissions for bringing eBay sellers or listings to the site)
  • Your business model involves re-directing traffic directly to eBay from display ad networks or paid search (no longer allowed per our Terms and Conditions)
  • Your business model involves a sub-affiliate model (no longer allowed per our Terms and Conditions)
If you feel that your application deserves a re-review, please forward any additional information that you would like us to consider to our Customer Support Team at ePN-cs-english@ebay.com. It is not necessary to submit an additional application with a different email address. Requests that contain no new information about your promotional methods will not be reconsidered.
Thank you,
The eBay Partner Network Team

    Exactly. You figured it out.

You probably won't be able to do it without expending some effort and some time. You'll need an unmonetized site that has been around a while (1 year or more), that doesn't have private domain registration (and the registration matches other info on your application), that has a lot of good original content (100+ content pages) and that doesn't look like it's been made for the sole purpose of getting ad clicks.

Last year I apply for eBay Partner Network using one of my weight loss blog and I get almost instant approval.

Maybe you should try setup a blog with your own domain name plus some contents and I believe you will have no problem getting the approval.

When I was first starting out, I put a CRAZY, unrealistic emphasis on affiliate programs. I applied to, and was accepted to, almost every major affiliate program imaginable. Do I actually use... Any of the..? No. Lol! Turns out selling Affiliate stuff isn't my forte.

There was ONE and ONLY one affiliate program that said no thank you to me... And that was the eBay affiliate program. Oh well... The sites I had up at the time were complete garbage and didn't focus on a particular niche or product so I don't blame them.

A good looking review site with several reviews and a few dozen indexed pages will get accepted pretty easily... Just to let you know.

      CHEERS & GOOD LUCK!

I submitted mine after what supposedly was a major crackdown period for them, when I first started learning about this stuff.

It was by no means anything close to 100+ pages of content.

It was however all original content- one quite long and useful article (which is still where 100+ viewers a day come from,) a few brands of the product the niche was on, but organized into categories with a brief explanation of what those categories are.

It was really just the one main article that had any length. The other was just organzied content, no real reviews on any of the products, but presented in a logical way that offered some use to the visitor. Was accepted right away and I still use EPN on this site to make money.

Just to make it clear, you can have fewer pages and get approved and a lot more than 100 and get turned down. It's just that the people I know who've been successful at getting approved recently have had something beyond 10 pages of rehashed reviews and PLR articles and something better than generated product listing pages. 100 pages isn't a magic number but you do stack the deck against yourself if you have a smaller website or one that looks like a recently slapped together cookie-cutter made-for-affiliate site.

Basically, EPN is very sensitive to who they approve since they had some big time abusers of the system while it was under CJ and in the early days when they brought it in-house about two years ago.

Probably just as well for you that they didn't approve you. There are MUCH better/less troublesome affiliate networks out there that pay better to boot!

Used to be that you could make pretty good money with the eBay Partner Network. Then came Quality Click Pricing. This changed everything. No more sales commissions, but paid for each click, a la Adsense style.

But there are times when there are many clicks and whoa! Whats this? No earnings but there are clicks? How can that be!?!?

Well there son, only and I mean ONLY the innermost circle of EPN trusted indivduals knows the answer. You see, this payment system is based on perceived quality of the traffic which your site(s) send to eBay. In theory, the higher the quality of customer that ebay receives from you, the more they are willing to pay you for that lead. Not a bad idea really. BUT, nobody knows the super secret formula which EPN uses to determine these levels of quality!

So as a result you may find that your EPN income fluctuates wildly all over the place. I've had weeks at a time with many clicks and no income from this.

But I suppose that even if you make a dime from them then its better than nothing. Just don't rely too heavily on EPN as a serious source of income.

Just set up a blog with Wordpress or Blogger.com. Do a couple of posts and then re-submit your application.
