What Content and How to Monetize?

I'm thinking of going down the route of buying a localized domain like this:

www.CITYNAMEcinemas.com

It gets a good search volume and I believe the competition to be fairly weak, only really that of the big cinemas who obviously have their brand name as the website and not an EMD.

I think with a little work I could get the website to the top 3, possibly the top and get around 100 uniques/day.

However, I'm a little confused. What sort of content should I put on the site? Perhaps I could review each cinema in the area, providing real reviews (I live in the city), google maps on each page devoted to the cinema and other related information.

I'd love to put listings on the website, but I have no idea how to do this without manually updating the website. Is it possible to 'steal' information from the big cinema's sites and automatically update the information on my site? Basically, a self-updating listings?

I don't think monetization is a huge problem. If the website gets enough traffic, I can easily flip it. Whilst I own it though, I was thinking perhaps some CPL offers. I think they'd be a higher conversion if the visitor only has to submit an e-mail for something. I have no idea about these really though and how to apply for them etc so I'll probably just end up being an affiliate for LoveFilm and other film related websites.

I'm unsure of this idea. The content is scary almost, I have no idea what to write and how to maximise the websites value for future buyers of it.

I assumed when using this tactic for a domain like www.CITYNAMEplumbers.com you can easily flip it to a plumbing business in that city after gaining some traffic - but I doubt cinema's will want to snap up my website!

What are people's thoughts then?

well.. in my opinion.. things go the other way around.. I mean.. why would you want to buy that kind of domain names if you don't know what you want to do with it ?

What I would do is keyword research. You must have done some if you found that domain gets searches. Your keyword research will tell you what to write about. Whatever good keywords you find, that would be what you write about.

Type those keywords in the search and see what comes up to get some ideas.

You might want to do research first on what are being ranked for those keywords.

    or

    You could use CPA marketing.

To find out if you can legally use content from the cinemas' websites, either check their terms of use, or e-mail them directly to ask permission.

Whether or not you grab updated listings of what is currently playing (which I think is a great idea if you can get the content legally), I would suggest you mix theater reviews with movie reviews. You will run out of theaters to review in the area at some point, but you will never run out of new movies to review!

Take a look at the current sites of the movie theaters in your city. Do they offer an RSS feed of their current movies? If so, you just need to use the feed to keep your site updated.

I'm still having a mental block picturing a good monetization scheme. If I go to a cinema website I have no interest in ordering DVD's, I want to go to the movies. Now, you might tempt me with an advertisement for a live comedy show, a local dinner theater, area restaurants, even school plays... Which I guess means you might be able to monetize with selling advertising to other local entertainment venues. (Don't forget local bars for "after the movie".)

One last thought, but this would be a royal pain in the ...... to keep updated. Since a high number of movies are based upon great books, you might want to list the associated book from Amazon. (I have a difficult time believing it would a big converter, though.)

As far as content, your content can be based upon reviews of the theaters, including the quality of their snack bars, cleanliness, parking, etc. You can do announcements about movies and special events. You can write reviews about the surrounding restaurants, pubs, and entertainment establishments (Possibly for a fee...).

Those are things which pop to mind without doing any research.

I don't think stealing content would be a good idea...

I think the problem here is don't look for the easy solution. Easy come easy go.

If you want to make serious money from that domain or keyword, there is always a way, you just need to invest your time and effort into a system.

The more work and effort on your part, you will be making that much more.

The pitfall for all newbies is that they look for the easy way out. That is the road to failure. Things become much easier after you do your work. Automation is what we all want in the end. To get there you have to create a system.

You already have a great start: the idea.

Go take action and keep looking!

I'll be interested in what YOU have to come up with!

You should do a keyword research and rank each of them. - Do some basic SEO strategies like directory submission, bookmarking, blog posting and write a good article about your site with the keyword in it.
