Specifically, for the back of my plastic business card. The target client is offline business owners who need are online marketing services. I'm thinking the back of the business card can say this: Call me if you would like to learn how you can make $500 {per month} in recommending my marketing services to others. Thats...I did say $500 per month! Basically, my referal program would include the following: First Tier {Short Term Money Maker} ® $5 for every lead that turns into a free consultation appointment {0-25} = $125 ® $7 for every lead that turns into a free consultation appointment {26-50} $ 175 ®$10 for every lead that turns into a free consultation appointment {51+} $250 month potential if you refer 25 business owners that turns into a personal free consultation appointment • Appointments must be made face to face unless the business is out of the Illinois Valley Area (whereas phone consultation would suffice) 2nd Tier – {Long Term Money Maker} You will get a 10% of all monies spent by the businesses that used our marketing services (which was a direct result from your referral). For example, if a local business needs our services which cost $1000, we would make a donation to your non-profit organization of $100. Again, this is for life…so if they spend $5000 next year, we will cut you a check for $500. Some may think of this as bad business...but I think you are investing in an incredible salesperson when their businesses (e.g. the business owner who is referring business to you) sees these kind of consistant checks.....WORD OF MOUTH WILL SPREAD LIKE WILD FIRE ! |

I think it would depend on who you are handing the cards to. I wouldn't think that business owner/clients would be interested, they already have a business to tend to. At least not interested in such a complex compensation plan. College kids may be another story though. |

I think the more effective purpose of a slogan on a "general use" business card would be to sell potential clients on your services. If they are already a client, I'm assuming you've already informed them of the benefits they will gain from referring others to your services...so...your slogan is "wasted". I think it would be better served to peak potential clients interest in your services in the first place. "Finally make the internet pay" "How much money is in your list?" "Call me for FREE gasoline for life.....not really. But you can call me if you want more paying customers"

You might try getting a copy of Mark Joyners "the Irresistible Offer" and it would assist you in choosing a slogan. It is free in several places online, I think you could just Google it. Anyway, the value in doing this is that Mark teaches how to "Sell your prospect in 3 seconds or less.." using sales copy. I see this as applicable to your wants in this regard |

As a off-line & on-line business owner and professional I am not looking for a way to earn $7. I also would not refer anyone even if it was $7,000 unless I knew and trusted them. Because it's my reputation that is at risk. If you want to build a network of business professionals who will refer you business, start by giving them some form of information( a product, free evaluation etc.) that is really beneficial to them and their business. By doing this you a) gain more clients & b) earn the trust and respect of the prospects who do not buy. If you have built a relationship and trust with these prospects the you can ask for referrals with a script similar to this..."Even if you don't need my services at the present time, who do you know who would benefit from the same( free evaluation, report) that I just gave you?" In regards to your specific business card i would have a clear tag line of the front stating for example: "Making Online Marketing Simple & Profitable For Small Business Owners." On the back of the card state for example: "If My Free Report(Evaluation) Was Helpful To You Please Give This Card To A Fellow Business Owner Who Is In Need Of Marketing Help." Please remember business professionals only want to know three things: 1) Who you are 2) What you do & 3) How can you help them with their biggest problems today. I hope this was helpful. |

| I think I got it...check out this angle !!!! "Ask me how you can get a lifetime of free adveristing” When the offline business owner calls you and asks you say this: "Sure...the way you can get a lifetime of free adversing is by referring me customers that you think can benefit from my straegic marketing services. When you refer me a client, I will put your company name, link and banner/graphic on my website. If you refer more then one customer, I will put your company name and logo on my books, reports, and emails that I send out. Simply put, the more you refer me clients, the more advertising I will give you. This strategy does the following: 1) Position your company in an esteemed light. This subtly puts GREAT VALUE to your company 2) Promotes good will- they refer you a client...you give them free advertising 3) ITS GETS BUSINESS OWNERS TO CALL YOU --WITHOUT DIRECT MAIL MARKETING! - my personal favorite 4) They can put GRAPHICS on your website when they refer you a client. The reason this can be powerful is because most small business owners DO NOT HAVE ADVERTISING BANNERS. Tell them they can do this....and if they don't.....for a fee...you can help them 5) It builds more hooks into your relationship with your client....THE MORE HOOKS....the harder it is to leave....another great hook is offering them hosting through your reseller account. Aweber autoresponder service...is just another hook. Thoughts? Chris Negro |

[Warning - pure opinion] Chris, I think you are making this more complicated than it needs to be. It sounds like you're trying to run a referral program like an affiliate program for an ebook or something. Your last post is closer to what you want, but you have to be careful. As a professional marketing consultant, you may not want to look like one of those old-style MLM recruiters with a row of neon "Lose Weight Now - Ask Me How" buttons down each suspender. I'd recommend picking up a copy of "Endless Referrals" by Bob Burg. The whole book is about getting, well, endless referrals. Burg lays out his whole system from soup to nuts. |

give your card a retention value by adding a 2009 callandar with your slogan underneath it. They'll keep the card for the callandar and may just pay attention to your slogan. "This year I'm going to make $$$$$ - You Can Too - It's Your call! visit your website or simply call me on 6668 888 88999 I leave several business cards like these whenever I sit down at a bar or cafe for people to pick up after me..they work! Are you looking for a business opportunity that’s property related? Well, the answer may be closer than you think – right on your doorstep perhaps. In fact, there’s money to be made anywhere you see a property for sale. Let me explain…

Assuming you eventually use the back of your business card to attract prospects rather than referrals...here is what I would put on the back of a business card, depending on the response device: ---------------- Phone Response ---------------- Free Report Shows How To Solve Your Number One Problem New 18 page report reveals how to solve your biggest problem in 3 easy steps. Just call 1-800-555-3874 for a FREE Recorded Message and I'll send your copy, today. ---------------- Email Response ---------------- Free Report Shows How To Solve Your Number One Problem New 18 page report reveals how to solve your biggest problem in 3 easy steps. Just send a blank email to freereport@mysite.com and I'll instantly send your copy of this report. (Or send them to a squeeze page...) It's much easier getting referrals from a paying customer than from someone who may not even be a prospect. |

"Want this BIG BENEFIT? Ask me how to get it!" "Ask me how to get a LIFETIME OF FREE ADVERTISING" "LOSE WEIGHT NOW! Ask me how!" Maybe it's just me, but the whole thing hits me like one of those old Zig Ziglar closes - "If I could show you a way to get this big benefit, you'd want to get it today, wouldn't you?" (smiling and nodding). If I were going to do something like what you say, I'd tweak it a little... "Get a lifetime of free advertising - free recorded message explains:" [URL of landing page] On the page, I'd put one of those audio postcard type pages Alex Mandossian likes to use. A nice head shot with the audio controls underneath on the left, a few bullets and a call to action (Call Me) on the right. Maybe skip the photo and audio and use a short video or Camtasia explaining your proposal like you were face to face. My opinion again, but I think you're asking a few words on the back of a business card to do an awful lot... My way, once it's set up it runs on autopilot. Can't hurt and might help, so it's worth trying. I notice you've posted this as a recommendation over on David Preston's monster 'Cash Cow' thread, so you've obviously convinced yourself it's the right way to go. I posted this just to clarify what I was trying to say, and because you deserve the courtesy of an answer...

I agree... I actually have three different business cards: one for small businesses (owners actually man their own cash registers) another for 501c3 non profits (I do online publicity for them for FREE) another for more corporate types (ones who know what the term seo and sem mean) What you card says definitely depends on who you're giving the card to. I barter with a local printer and can get changes made to my cards/brochures when ever I feel a need to change it to say.

Being that I am going to be passing these cards out to Small Business Associations who will then pass them out to small businesses owners (and tell them I do marketing if they need help) and small business owners (who will get a business card at the Chamber of Commerce Presentation that I will be giving)....the call to action is TO GIVE ME A CALL...which I want. Not to mention....both of these examples....I'm already perceived to be the guru because I'm speaking at Chamber of Commerce AND being referred to by the small business association. P.S. Another method is I'm going to be passing out these business cards at the social events that the chamber has....ONE PROBLEM I see is...once I get tons of clients....I can see the importance of "systemizing this" as you will be bombarded with calls with this slogan....especially being on a plastic business card....which is already an attention getter and gives immediate credibility to whoever receives them.... Given the fact that you will already have the support of the referring organization, the only thing I would add to the tag line is "Call me direct - xxx-xxx-xxxx" (Repeat your phone number from the front of the card).

Does this really work? I don't think I have ever paid to much attention to what is printed on the back of a business card. I mainly just keep them for the phone numbers and such and file them away for later use. But I guess if this would really work I would give it a try. Thanks for the input.

I'm finding the idea of a $7 referal commission unbearably cheasy in an offline context. This sort of thing is sometimes called "bird-dogging". It is covered in detail in "How To Sell Anything To Anybody" by Joe Girard. The difference is he was selling new cars to working-class people, many of them already customers of his. For your business-to-business efforts I would avoid it. for 1: the amount of money is very small and not enough to latch onto a person's greed. If they go to the effort of studying the plan they'll see it as MLM-like - and if MLM interests them they'll naturally start looking at other programs with more lucrative-looking pay plans and jump around and forget about yours. 2: business people feel that referals reflect well or badly on themselves. Making it a mercenary equation may scare them off. I'm also wondering if you want to have a phone room of "consultants" working for you - because if this sort of plan actually works for you you might have way more work than you can handle. So - if you are going to implement a MLM type thing be prepared to "scale" your business to handle the volume it's success will bring. I'd bet on developing goodwill through effective networking and followup over such a motivation. Help another business owner solve his/her present problem by writing it down - taking it home, and going through your "tickle file" - then if you have another contact that can help the 1st person, you introduce them and they can do some business together. Then you make 2 friends. Reciprocity will follow if you do this consistently. Most business people will be far too disorganized to help you in such a pro-active way but your willingness to go out of your way to help them - and your superior organization - will make quite an impression. |

I agree with Janet Sawyer way up at the top on Nov. 27th KISS. I think setting up the back of the card as more of a drop card is a better idea.
