What's going on at youtube?

I was denied access to my account ( I only have one) unless I linked it to my google account. I hear that they are deleting all the accounts that are not phone verified or linked to a google acct.

Could this be the end of youtube marketing?

Why would it be the end of YouTube marketing.

All you need to do is add a phone - if what you say is right. Worst case scenario - buy the cheapest pay as you go you can get, use the number to verify your account, then sell the phone on eBay.

Of course if you are using YouTube in a legit way there's no reason not to verify your account with your phone number. (I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't anyway).

  • how in the world would youtube requiring an email be the end of marketing?

it might help prevent spamming (doubt it) but i WANT google to have my info, my name, address, social, etc.

how else would they send me checks

    end of spamming? hopefully.

end of marketing? not in a million years.

It would be very cool of Google and Youtube to concentrate on filtering out spammy videos. I saw a well known Guru suggest submitting essentially the same video but with different keywords and tags multiple times to the Toob to 'maximise views.' That's the kind of crap we can do without...

I just got in ok to an account I have not phone verified nor linked to a google account. It might be more the content in the account that they shut people down for.

Even then you could still provide great content videos and use YouTube to build an audience.

Excuding of course the major brands that obviously have self promotional youtube channels, right?

Google owns Youtube, so if they want you to have it linked to a gmail account then that is their right, no?

What does it accomplish to come here and complain about something you/we have no control over. right?

All I had to do was link it to a Gmail account. No big deal but it would not let me sign in without doing that

yes as they are owned by google they require the same verification process - so a telephone verification is needed - as your gmail account would have already gone through that - linkng them is enough -

if you do however need other youtube accounts then what you can do is open a email account with yahoo - then open a google adwords account with your yahoo account - then with the yahoo email open a youtube account - you should be fine without any tel verification -

I also believe you can bye a number of youtube accounts for very cheap - that is if you required them

    thanks

They've been doing this for a while now, and there's absolutely nothing to be worried about as long as you're not using Youtube for nefarious purposes. If anything, it'll help discourage people from uploading pirated and/or crappy/deceptive videos onto Youtube.

Anything which tightens things up and prevents spammers or worse still, bots from existing on the key sites is, in my opinion, good news. I cannot really see why anyone would hold a different opinion.

I can see why Google would want a complete user base, all in the same format, too. It may well be part of the full integration of their purchase of You Tube. I bet they find that a load of accounts are closed without a whimper.
