What are the best sites to find freelance work?

I'm fairly active on elance, fiverr, and vworker, but I'm looking to round out that trio with a few more good freelance sites. Does anybody have any recommendations on freelance sites that they've either worked from or hired people on. I don't need recommendations for sites that clients are looking for 100 articles for $2 total...I know plenty of those sites. I'm trying to find sites that you can get paid for good work. Just wanted to pick your brain and see if I'm missing anything that could be good.

Trust me you might want to work on odesk.com it is one of the best as far as I can tell. Not only is payment guaranteed on hourly job but the interface is quite user friendly. Trust me if you are really looking for some good and nice quality job offers then your one stop is odesk.

Great list guys, I was in need of the exact same thing. I use fiverr but sometimes you run out of options over there. I am going to check out oDesk and see how that works out.

    Great post!

If you're having trouble getting paying jobs at those sites, it could also have something to do with your portfolio. How strong are your samples? Have you been published anywhere prestigious or well-known online? This doesn't matter quite so much for Fiverr and vWorker, but Elance has some stiff writing competition.

Aside from the sites listed in other replies, I'd throw some content sites into the mix. These will pay you decently well while helping you get your articles published on multiple sites, and some will also pay you in passive income.

Break Studios pays $8 per article, your work will show up on sites like Break.com and Made Manual.

Demand Studios pays $5-30,depending on which of their properties you write for. Livestrong.com pays $25 but eHow only pays $15.

Associated Content will pay you $10 per article for a set # per month (I sell them 9 at that rate), and they continue to earn passive income. Beyond your guaranteed sales at $10 each, you can also submit other articles for upfront payments ranging from $2-10 plus passive income.

Textbroker will pay you a few dollars per article, based on length and writing quality. Normal rates are something like $4.50 for a 350-word article.

Constant Content allows you to set your own prices for your work, based on length, quality and rights you're willing to sell on the article. Articles frequently sell here for $25 and up, especially if you're giving away full rights. The site takes 35% of your selling price, so many writers price accordingly.

There are also a ton of places you can write purely for passive income while you're inbetween clients. A few of these include HubPages, InfoBarrel, Squidoo, Bukisa and Xomba.

If you want to make decent money, there are only 3 websites:

    Elance
    Guru
    Warrior Forum

If you want to make a reasonable amount of money:

    Digital Point
    Wicked Fire
    NamesPros

Websites which are not going to serve much/any purpose to most/all people:

    V7
    Black Hat
    Freelancer
    Scriptlance
    Rentacoder
    Getacoder
    LimeXchange
    etc

The third group is of no use to those who are aware of the first two groups. Stick to the first group if you target $1 per 100 words or more, although ********** does have some work at $2 or so per 100 words as well.

The third group of websites is ideal for $1-2 per 500 words and rarely above $3 per 500 words. So hardly any point going there.

Guru, Odesk, and Elance are considered the best in the industry and are often featured on news programs such as CNN.

You can’t go wrong picking one of those three!

    I don't agree with Odesk.

Guru and Elance are easier to work with. Also, Odesk doesn't pay much. Rate wise, it comes in the same league as freelancer.com, if not worse!

You can't expect to earn $4 per 500 words at Odesk with a moderately established reputation, at least not too often!

At Elance you may be able to manage even $8 or $12 per 500 words.

At Guru you will be able to manage $4+ per 500 words with many projects where the rate goes to $1 per 100 words or even a few times it as well.
