Amazon (or other Aff programs) and AdSense

I'm working on a plan for a site with Amazon affiliate links. Do those of you that do well with affiliate programs also run something like AdSense or is the AdSense money not worth possibly loosing a visitor with via an AdSense link to earn a few pennies?

Personally I wouldn't combine the two. You have to decide what your aim is for the site and then market that goal. If you're trying to sell a product you don't want your prospective buyers clicking off to a competitors site.

What you need to do is decided if your keywords are likely to get people to spend money, or are they looking for free info. If they are buying keywords then I'd offer a product on my site.
If they aren't buying keywords, then put adsense on it and let them click off elsewhere.

Im with Bingo, I wouldn't mix the two. But, I would see if I could mix in some CPA offers or some great offers from Commission Junction, coupons, etc. You could make some money with those.

Are you the one who asked me about it in PMs? My personal opinion is I wouldn't want to lose the Amazon sale through a traffic leak on Adsense. I don't think it's worth it.

hmm, the album reviews site in my sig uses amazon. depending on how much traffic i get in the future and how well it converts, i will consider adsense.

for example, if i am getting 500 visits/day and selling 2 albums, it would be more profitable to use adsense.

guess it depends what you're selling, and how much you sell.

I've tested in the past running just Amazon vs. Amazon & Adsense and my test shows that overall income is greater with just Amazon. Maybe because of the added clutter, but it seems that people don't want to proceed if they feel that the site has too many affiliate links.
