Problems with Wordpress

Well, it is not really a problem, yet.

I have a review site. I wrote the reviews as posts. This was one of the first review type sites I created a while back. I have not done much with it, but it still brings in about $100 a month. And that is with just 5 posts.

I think I can get this to do better by adding more content. I wanted to really fill this site out with some more blog post and article pages.

So I would like to change all the post over to pages. My post currently rank highly in Google (first page.) I don't want to lose this. Will I lose this if I delete the post and make them pages?

Jon

Most likely, yes... depending on the permalink type used.

My permalink is the name of the article. That is why I was wondering.

The URL of the post is hxxp://www.keyword.com/postname/

Would the name of the page also be hxxp://www.keyword.com/pagename

If they are the same, would my page show up in the SERPs instead of my post

If it is set to postname, then dont worry, the permalinks will still be the same since pages use the same format url + page title..

However check your links by creating a page.

Dont forget to add a 301 redirect, it might come in handy.

In that case the URL would be the same... although keep in mind your new posts always ping the "update services" (=tell about the blog being updated) - while your Pages will NOT notify those services about your new content!

Is there any logical reason you want to switch from existing posts to Pages?

I am very positive that you will loose them, try to make them as pages too, and when the pages rank the same as the posts, delete the posts and put redirection to the pages

^^ Very bad advice. (and total nonsense!)

are you sure about this? Since based on my experience if a certain link is broken or not working anymore. And when I tried to search the link in google, google can still find it and I can still view the site using google.

Jon, I agree with Istvan. I also would be interested in hearing why you don't just start building pages now and leave the simple 5 posts the way that they are because they are ranking already.

It is touch and go with Google about messing with a page. I have changed the structure of the home page before of a wordpress site and dropped to the second page of the results, and I have also changed the entire home page of a wordpress website and didn't move at all.

Honestly if you are ranking where you want to be right now, then I would leave it just to be safe.

Maybe you can let us know why you want to change the posts to pages?

I think after reading the suggestions I will just leave the post where they are. I will create new pages for some new products and then add a ton more posts.

And then interlink every thing to each other.

FYI: I wanted to create pages with reviews to presell my products. Then have a backend blog running with posts. I plan to preload the post for about 6 months to drip out each week. Each post targeting a different keyword and linking to one of the presell pages.

But it is OK to leave these reviews as post and then just create a new blog format around them.

      Thanks
