Can you use other peoples youtube vids for your own squeeze page?

I've been working on two of my affiliate sites and getting info to create new and unique content and I came across a nice looking video squeeze page offering free guitar lessons. ultimateguitarschool.com (I have watched this video previously on youtube a ton of times because I love it and it is one of the most watched videos on youtube.)

Whoever made the squeeze page edited the beginning and end of the video to convince people to optin. So, the owner of the site used the youtube video, edited it and re-posted it on you tube and is using it in a squeeze page to build a list.

And, they don't even give the free lessons they said they would after I opted in. Instead they redirected me to a guitar teaching affiliate offer and have been sending me email to but they affiliate product. No Free lessons anywhere, not even from the affiliate product.

I have to admit though, this got my attention and I thought it was a good idea, BUT, I didn't think you were allowed to edit other peoples videos. Are you? I would assume that he is getting a very high optin rate.

why is it so hard to hit "record" on a video camera and make your own?

Ummm....maybe because not everyone has a video camera hanging on their belt loop next to their cell phones could be the most logical reason...but I could be wrong!

Then again, maybe they do, but when it comes to umm...what's it called...oh, yeah...VIDEO EDITING...they suck at it and would wind up spending more time editing the damn video and just find it easier to use someone else's video, which they were inclined to do because they bought some WSO or came across one of those 'make money online using free video' websites and this is what was outlined within the report and seeing as they don't know any better (the newbie), they just think it's ok to do.

  • Hi,

Seems this particular marketer is deceptive, especially if they don't deliver as promised.

There are many things you aren't "supposed" to do, but people still do it. If it is wrong, they eventually tend to get caught. Chances are this particular marketer you pointed out is doing that for a number of products, so probably down the line is going to rip off the wrong person, and need to deal with it then.

But to answer your question, no, you aren't "supposed" to steal other people's content and pass it off as your own.

editing video is easy and windows/mac both come with FREE video editing software or you check the hire warrior forum for someone to do it cheap.

also, a camera on your belt isn't necessary, most laptops have them built in or you can get one for under $100 at amazon

you don't even need a camera if you don't want, do a screencast with a mouse and some free screencast software or website for your video content

no matter what way you slice it, the bar to making your own vidoes is SO LOW that anyone that needs to steal someone else's video to make a buck is rather lame imho

Can someone define a "mash up" as it applies to using someone else's YouTube video?

In this in effect taking someone's video, editing it and then using it yourself?

And I'm noticing some sites that urge you to upload other folks' videos so the site can put Adsense around them, and split the ad revenue with you instead of the original video owner.

mashup refers to using the api of youtube to display youtube videos in compliance with their terms of service along side of content from another api (maybe flickr pictures)

downloading and editing someone else's content isn't allowed whether you call it "mashup" or whatever

        YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

        specifically

You shall not copy, reproduce, distribute, transmit, broadcast, display, sell, license, or otherwise exploit any Content for any other purposes without the prior written consent of YouTube or the respective licensors of the Content. YouTube and its licensors reserve all rights not expressly granted in and to the Service and the Content.

Can you steal other peoples' videos for your own use?

Sure. You can rob banks, deal drugs or spit on the sidewalk. None of them are legal, though.

And before someone chides me for comparing stealing a video to robbing a bank, chill.

It's like getting pregnant. You can't be knocked part way up...

I just saw someone else using the same video and edited the beginning and end to promote their site, but they did write in the video who the original people were who made the video and gave them credit. But they added their website address to it. I heard you could use other peoples content or info as long as you gave them the proper credit for it. Is this allowed?

People who say that are *******izing the Doctrine of Fair Use, which allows for using short bits of another piece, with attribution, for purposes of review (along with a few other uses, none of which are 'use their stuff like it was mine in order to make a buck').

If that were true, I could pirate movies and sell them as my own as long as I left the original credits in at the end.

your not supposed to be usin other peoples videos as your own, but you can post them on your own website. theres a program that lets you download videos from youtube and any other website, its called Real Player. just download the program for free, than go to youtube and find the video you want and than download it. then re upload it to your website, but you should at least give credit to the person you got the video from
