Today's free idea, for whoever has the time and resources to do it:

Ever have a song stuck in your head, but you don't know the name of the song or the artist?

Yeah, who hasn't.

All you've got is the tune - the notes - and it's driving you crazy trying to remember the name of the song and/or the artist. You're out of luck, because you can't Google the notes...

Until now.

Here's what you do - set up a website that tells people the name and artist of any song based on the notes. You can hire a guy who knows everything about music for $10 an hour - with the right ad, you'll be flooded with applicants. Then just charge people .99 or $1.99 to have their song named. They can just call a number on their cell, hum the tune, and get the name.

Since each connection will probably take no more than a minute or two, it's about 50 bucks an hour with one guy working. With two working and more visitors, it's more money.

You could even have the questions answered by automated software, although this would probably cost more than just hiring someone.

Anyway, there's today's free idea. Have fun.

Thanks. I got a million of 'em. I'm going to try to give at least one away every day on WF, just because I can, and for personal reasons. Stay tuned.

There is already an iphone app (Shazam) which identifies the songs from the phone microphone and matches it from its database.

Well, I guess that was a good idea then.

And long before iPhone there was an app on the Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

However the idea is still great as there's more to this world than iPhone and SE phones. All these two already doing it just shows us there's a market for it

        Thanks,
        Alex

Well, I guess that was a good idea then.
Yep, this happens to me a lot.

I can't guarantee all my "free ideas" haven't already been done. Don't have the time or energy to research them all. That's up to those interested. If they've already been done, then I just take it as another confirmation that my ideas are good, although at this point - having independently invented well over a million dollars worth of products and ideas other people are making money on - I don't really need it.

I know that probably sounds a little made-up, so feel free to challenge me on it. Hell, I have a multi-million dollar idea (in my estimation) sitting here in Notepad right now - and if people push me a little I might just post it on WF. I give away ideas as a protest against the fact that that it takes so much money to develop anything. It's a philosophical critique of the system, if you will. But no one needs to care about that.

Simple Translation: I'm crazy, and I give away money-making ideas free, so stay tuned.

for a website to provide service, there is a problem I can see:
how users provide the song info for you to recognize it?

all the users have is the melody in the head. if the user can sing the melody on the phone, it may be ok, but on a website?

I could totally missed something here.

Oh yeah, the user would have to have a voice input device, definitely. It would be a microphone if they are using a desktop. No big obstacle there, as most people do have a mic. If not, they can just use their phone.

I wish I could find the box. I'd like to think inside it a little bit, just for a change.

My real-life people pray for me to find the box. Literally. But I just don't see it.

Ah, nice. They found a nice way to implement it there. Good on them.

Never heard of them before, but will use it next time the "stuck tune" happens to me.

Hopefully tomorrow's Free Idea won't already be done. Hehehe.

The good thing about ideas is that they are in the ethos and we can all get them, just helps to be first and to have the money, luck and spirit to see it through.

I have the app on my old Nokia and if that has it so does Android and of course Apple.

A twist would be to have a radio show where people ring up and hum the song to see if Midomi would pick it up. It is pretty good if you sing in tune, but would be very funny listening to people try and fail. If they get it right the show plays the song.

It's evident iphone apps can be created for almost anything nowadays.

Think about all the ideas you've had and never took action on and then months or even years later, someone has already done it.

If I had started 3 years ago, I'd be an iphone app developing millionaire by now. .99 cent app sold to 1 million of the 47 million people with iphones = cha ching!

Back in 1990 when I was stationed in Germany we had a teletype system that was hooked up to a computer screen that allowed us to communicate in real time with several other signal stations throughout the world.

Fast forward 2 years later and AOL has this exciting new system called Instant Messaging. Turns out it was the exact same thing that we were already using in the Army.

I wish I had the knowledge and business foresight to see what I was working with at the time.

Lesson learned - Always keep your eye open for opportunities and take note of what is going on around you. The reality is you never know when the next idea to make you a millioniare many times over will appear in front of your face.

        Respectfully,
        Tim
