My Dad and I stumbled upon an article talking about Facebook shutting down sometime in March. Supposedly, Mark Zuckenberg confirmed this in some kind of private phone conversation, or something of the sort.

I personally think this is probably some rumor. Especially with "Social Network" now being out (for those who don't know, this is a movie that came out that basically is about the story of how Facebook was created) I highly doubt he is going to "throw in the towel" so to say. I post this however, because I can understand my father's concern being as how Facebook can be a very reliable source to market in.

Just wanted to post this up for discussion and to find out what anyone may know about it.

Not this rumor again. Oy. Just when I thought my Facebook account was safe, Mark Zuckerberg wants to come along and ruin my fun. Doesn't matter anyway, the world is coming to an end on May 21, 2011. Harold Camping said so. Word.

myspace just lay off some workers. well, who would think of this some years ago? internet is changing fast, FB has to make it profitable very quickly, not much time left.

Umm, People don't shut down companies that are worth billions with comparitivly no over-head "just because".

Besides, Mark Zuckenberg is not the only one calling the shots over at FB anymore. It's become too big.

Maybe you should make a Facebook Group and call it: "Facebook to end in March?" and see how many fans/followers (whether happy or horrified) that you can get.

That was published by a publication that posts fake news. Mark Zuckerberg did not confirm it ... in fact, he said he would like to put that ridiculous rumor to rest.

But it doesn't matter much anyway because Al Gore is shutting down his Internet on March 15th, so all the web will be gone.

There is no way that could be true.
You are talking about facebook...you might be thinking about myspace.
Myspace seems like it is really coming to an end and an a couple of
years I can see Twitter going 6 feet under.

I can see facebook like microsoft one day.

What i mean by that is

Facebook Operating System
Facebook Phones
Facebook Computers
Facebook Search Engine

Facebook won't be going anywhere no time soon.

Plus Mark Zuckerberg goal is to hit 1 BILLION USERS

Facebook has acceptability and fame all around the world, so there is no chance of shutting it down, as I know too many countries tried to stop by govt. effort but they indeed failed. However, if it is stopped than new sites will come into context.

Now come to the point why some country tried to stop it?
they shows - students are wasting lots of time into facebook for nothing.

So I may suggest to bring some thing different into it that will prevent not only student; but also every one from wasting their valuable time. The process can be some thing like that -
1. just limiting using hours of an user it may be one or two hours in a day. I think it should not be more than two hours.
2. monthly charges can be applied too for using more than limiting hours.

there may some other better policies too.............

No one is going to walk away from the Billions of dollars FB is worth. It will die some day like MySpace did, but FB is just in its infancy.

One could only be so lucky if FB shut down. But then again, if FB wasn't around then the identity thieves would have to find another medium. (insert eye roll)

I'm not really on the FB band wagon. To me it's just a waste of time. As for marketing...well it's JUST another medium. Not the be all and end all.

  Seems we got a great discussion going on here. Turns out my gf searched was researching Zuckenberg, and he did in fact put these rumors to rest. To the few who actually may have believed this, you can rest easy and post your lovely status to your hearts desire. I really think some people would just go crazy without facebook. Hence why people who are somewhat addicted are willing to go as far as to research the person who made it. I'm just poking fun here of course, but something I joke about on a constant basis is really true. Facebook is "SRS Business".
