Article Writers.... your links are broken

Article Writers.... your links are broken / bad / dead... am I wrong to remove them?

I know this is against most article directories TOS so we don't need to beat that dead horse.

A lot of article writers come and go. Article directories are a graveyard of failed marketers with articles linking to parked pages or sites that no longer exist.

Is it wrong to remove these links?

As far as TOS, I'm not sure.

If you want to know my personal opinion, I would appreciate an email letting me know... then I don't care. You can remove them, I won't get mad, just as long as you put them back after I respond to you with the updates.

I'm sure the more "by the book" way is to wait for the response before modifying anything, or just not using the content at all. I, myself, could care less as long as you're cooperative and don't have any malicious intent.

I can't speak for others though.

That's an interesting conundrum. I say it's not a conundrum at all, though. Take out those links. Maybe do your due diligence and check more than once, though, on the off chance you hit the link during some down time or maintenance. Otherwise, I say change the link so the reader's experience isn't devalued.

By the way, thanks for the reminder to check the links in my own article directory articles!

Sounds fair enough. Shoot off an email to the author and see what they say.

It's not malicious intent. I'm not removing authors bio boxes or links to be a jackass but I have found a large number of older articles (2006 era) where it appears that the authors have abandoned internet marketing and the sites are gone. Not much point linking to a 'site not found'.

I have done some research and in a few cases the links were typos but in many cases the authors haven't posted anything in years. My conclusion is they are either pen names and those marketers gave up on those sites / niches or they are articles from internet marketers who have dropped out of the game.

I've also found that ezine has changed their policies over the years. A lot of old articles linking to blogger blogs that aren't around any more... well, they are back now and joining my blogger zombie army. Blogger blogs that come with backlinks = SCORE!

  • I wouldn't be upset if the link was broken any ways. If you could let me know though that'd be great.
