Renewing hosting with HostGator

Hey guys, I recently (about 3 weeks ago I think) got my first domain and hosting from HostGator.
I got hosting for only one month to see how it goes and what it's all about, and I am very satisfied.
How do I renew the contract for another month?

Have you tried using their support system?

I would start there, I don't use host gator but this would apply to any hosting, take advantage of what is set up for you to get the right answers

I have done the same thing like you, waited 1 month to see how they are, and after that i have renewed for 6 month. I remember that i have talked with their support, and the miss which i have talked, had created a subscription for me of 6 month. I have paid a total of 59 dolars.

Remember that if you choose to prepay your hosting fees, you'll get a discount on the regular monthly price.

I use Hostgator and it is very good. If you are certain about your online business, it is better to buy the package for 3 years so it is much cheapper.

Is it possible to put everything I'm doing on hold?
Suppose I drop my hosting for a certain period of time due to other obligations, would I be able to just flip the "switch" back on when I'm ready and continue from where I left off?
My website wont just disappear right?

Unfortunately, it will disappear - everything's gone the moment you stop paying!

Let's get real! If you turn on the TV does it stay on after you turn it off? If you only pay for one month, your site will disappear and you will need to sign up again for hosting.

Why would you even consider dropping hosting - you can't find $10 to pay for hosting?

You don't host a site for one month and expect results. Your site is online for as long as you have PAID hosting.

Go into your Hostgator account (through the HG site) and you will see a "billing" for the next month. You can pay it through paypal and do that monthly.

Dear April: I don't want any trouble from you.
January was long, February was iffy, March was a freaking dumpster fire.
So sit down, be quiet, and don't touch anything.

You have a point, but that's not exactly what I need to know.
All I need to know is if I quit hosting, then renew it after a period of months-years, will my site return from the ashes to its former glory?
Not that it's anything glorious, I just haven't monetized it yet and I don't think I will be able to do so without puting in time I wont have.
So basically, I don't wannt just waste 50-200$ on hosting when I know I wotn be able to improve my site during this time, make it rank higher or make it more lucrative.

There's a possibility they'll keep back up files for a short period after you've failed to renew. But they may charge you to restore the site.

You can definitely get all the details from them. They can let you know if there are grace periods and for how long, whether they store files and for how long, etc.

Also, consider your SEO. If google & others follows a link from one site to yours and can no longer find yours because it's not hosted anywhere it's in their best interest to remove it from their search results.

An idea-- If you just want to test out a site or concept but aren't sure whether you want to go full launch. Use a free service like byethost.com or a blogger type account. Then re-launch on a paid service.
