Hey Folks,

Just curious what are your favorite article directories? which ones have you found to be the best in your experiences? also which do you dislike and feel are a waste of time.

Thanks,

Luis

I am very new to IMing so I have only been using Ezine articles for the time being. I have found them to be great, very professional and helpful.
I would also like to hear other directories that ahve good recommendation as I would like to expand.

I would reccommend ezinearticles.com go-articles.con and isnare.com as good places to start

    Luis,

There is a basic problem with your question. There are multiple theories of using Article Directories for marketing.

Method 1 - Create volume of average articles for the purpose of backlinks to improve SEO performance of primary domain.

Method 2 - Create a volume of average articles to drive traffic directly from articles to a domain or directly to an offer.

Method 3 - Create a low number of outstanding articles to create syndication opportunities so your articles spread naturally.

There is probably dozens of other methods I'm leaving out. Each of these methods have value and can work to varying degrees. Each of them will use article directories in different ways.

For Method 1 using a high number of article directories is preferred. Many directories of "questionable value" will not help your rankings.

For Method 2 the sites which generate traffic directly are most commonly EzineArticles and ArticlesBase. Results will vary wildly. Traffic increases if you promote your own articles by getting backlinks resulting in higher SEO rankings for the article.

For Method 3 EzineArticles is the current champion. Articlesbase and GoArticles are good added alternatives.

In all of these cases, please make sure you post to your own properties first, be it a blog or a website. Give yourself the chance to rank highest, not an article directory.

Posting to your properties first does not guarantee that you will rank highest. It only ensures you are identified by the search engines and others as the originator of the content.

Ranking highest depends on many variables key amongst which is the "authority" of the website.

You are correct. If posting to your own site it should be the copy you are promoting, not the ones on the article directories. If you create more backlinks to the article on your site, plus have it identified as the authority, it most commonly will end up ranking highest. Not always, but it is the ideal situation if it does.

Whoa...hold on a moment. "Authority" of the website is not nearly as critical as authority of the page. Authority in most situations equals number of back links to page. If my page has a higher number of quality backlinks than the article on EZA I will outrank it. EZA may make it easier to create PR and authority for a page, but only if you promote the article page itself.

    Good post Barry,

I do questions EZA and ABase's value for method 2 and 3 nowadays though.

I think the way forward for Article Directories is to serve the Marketers better rather than to hoard articles to increase Adsense earnings.

Wanted to do a quick mention of our directory we relaunched BETA recently - ArticleGold. It has the authority and has been top of the major search engines for terms like 'articles directory' , 'article directory' , etc for years now.

Our plan for it is quite interesting but that I will post on WF later when we are nearing the stage release.

Newly approved Articles are generally indexed within 24 hours and we relaunched with a clean slate so there is less than 1,000 articles on the site atm, Great Time to get your articles in (Good Qual Uniques only atm though)

And the so-called "page ranks" are largely meaningless, too, I'm afraid: those are just the page-rank of the directories' home pages. Your articles, of course, don't go on their home pages: they go on new PR-0 pages.

the PR filters down throughout the site. I was taught to think of it like a heatmap i.e. pages which are linked to more are hotter (more powerful). so a high PR domain is more beneficial than a low one. slightly.

I largely agree though, PR is not a deciding metric.

Oh, for sure. Slightly. This is how EZA's PR-0 copy of my articles can temporarily overtake my own brand new site's PR-0 copy of them originally indexed there. (Only temporarily, fortunately, and pretty easy to correct.)

Interesting link, above - thank you.

My faves are EZA, ArticlesBase, EasyArticles and GoArticles . I also use ArticleNexus, ArticleSnatch, SearchWarp, Jabberdi, Amazines, and ArticleBiz, though I don't think some of these get as much traffic (could be wrong, though).
