Can we still direct link?

I had an ad that was not receving any impressions. I emailed Google about it and they told me that my ad wasn't showing because my destination url didn't match my display url. This was the case because I was direct linking. If this is the case then we can no longer direct link or redirect. This doesn't seem right. Thanks for any help.

What products are you direct linking to?

Some affiliate networks allow that, e.g. ClickBank.
You just have to use the same destination URL as the display URL, and instead change the destination URLs of your individual keywords.

I'm not having a problem with my affiliate network allowing me to direct link it is Google.

So Google will still allow me to direct link as long as I change the destination urls of my individual k.w.s and not use just the single url? That is strange, why is that? Thank you for your help.

As long as the eventual landing page displays the display URL that is on your ad, you would be fine.

As for why Google allows that, I have no idea but I guess everyone loves more revenue.

Well thats what confused me, my eventual landing page is the same as my display url it's just the affiliate redirect that is different.

What I meant for why google allows that, is why do they not punish you if you have different individual k.w. destinations as long as the single url is the same.

Eventually I will be building my own domains but right now I am testing with direct linking. Thanks everyone.

That's the problem. Not the fact you're direct linking.

If your display URL reads: www.Website.com

Then the landing page must be: www.Website.com (the root domain has to match the display URL - you can deep link to a page within the site if you want)

Why even bother doing direct linking? You have no control of the landing page, your bids are probably much higher due to competiton, your quality score is going to suffer most of the time and your cpc is going to end up being higher in the end.

Get your own domain name and start having some control and reduce your cpc and improve your quality score.

I completely agree. This way, if something happens to the program you are an affiliate for, you've got control over where visitors go and you can re-direct them to a similar program, if necessary.

    I am having a similiar problem ,
My destination url is different from the one in the display url of Adwords campaign and I am not getting any impressions on my ADS.
So it really in the policy that destination url and display url cannot be different in google adwords.
I came across some ads on google which had destination url different from the ones which were in Display of the AD.

So what exactly is the scene ?

Yes, the destination URL for your ad and the display URL has to tally. Your ad campaigns will not run if those two are not identical.

What I'm really saying here is that the destination URL of your keywords can differ... That's the main difference here..

I wrote to the adwords support( My destination URL in the campaign differed from display URL ),
The adwords support told that ads not showing up is a problem (so they should have been showing)
        I wrote the following
Hi , I have 2 live campaigns at adwords and both of them are not showing
up in the search results. Infact they never did all my statistics are at
        0.
No impressions no clicks. Both the Campaign have the "Active" Status, they
keyword analysis tool shows the error "The keyword phrase doesn't
currently trigger any of your ads. "
I dug through all the troubleshooting posts and tried everything. My CPC
bid is higher than suggested ones, my quality score is either "OK" or
        "Great.
But the adwords statistcs are 0 since the start of the campaigns its been
        about 3-4 days.

what seems to be going wrong?

Thank you for your email. I understand you're concerned about the
visibility of your ad. We're currently investigating your concern and will
provide you with an update shortly. I sincerely appreciate your patience
        while we investigate the matter.

Its still seems to be all diminished , problem or an policy !

I would say they are not the fastest when it comes to responding to customer enquiries. I personally have had a horrifying experience of waiting up to weeks before they reverted.
