[Newbie Friendly] How To Get Clients Without Testimonials or Proof

I have seen many people ask what they can do to close sales, especially if they are new. After over 30 years of selling myself, my business, and other people's stuff, my experience could be helpful.

"But I'm just getting started!" you may moan. "I don't have any clients or testimonials," you mutter.

It is not that difficult, if you know your subject.

If you've been in the IM field for long, you can talk with the best of 'em and make good progress.

The key is in asking the right questions... no matter what field you are in.

I learned this from Ken Adams, years ago.

When you make your case to sell something on the internet, if you know the problems of a particular niche and can talk about it in a intelligent manner, folks figure... you must know what you are talking about.

One person that comes to mind is Todd Brown. He was a virtual unknown in massage therapy circles. He was NOT a massage therapist. He stated to market to massage therapists. The massage therapists took him as one of their own... they didn't ask him for his clients.

Dave Dee is another. He did a few shows as a magician and sold magic. Nothing spectacular. He then spent everything he had for private coaching with Dan Kennedy. Dan Kennedy told him to take his stuff and create ads for the magic magazines. He spent a year putting ads in the magic magazines, building a list and selling "Refurbished" Dan Kennedy to magicians. He made a mint. He had NO track record before this.

If you know enough about IM and start to talk with someone, I'll bet that when you talk about where is traffic coming from, how about conversions, etc., folks will figure, you know what you are doing.

You just gotta ask the right questions.... along with a sincere desire to help, seriously.

I posted a Warrior for Hire thread a few months back, and I didn't offer even 1 review copy.

The sales started coming in, because it was obvious that I have a killer backlink plan, and I provided proof of everything.

The only bad thing about that, was now that I've done very well for a few people, they aren't leaving feedback. But at least they're returning customers, so I can't complain too much.

    Hi Millard,
So basically it is having confidence in yourself and your product that helps gain the momentum then is that the general idea?

I agree you need to be able to stand on your own regardless of previous customers or not people are attracted to confidence.

I had this experience with running computer repair service offline I was young. Had not much of a reputation but I went and advertised where the big guys were.

It was soon that I had bigger ads than the others and was stealing their customers away. Just know your stuff the rest will follow

I really think the key is not only confidence, but KNOWING what you are doing...

It gives you a peace about it, an assurance, that comes across. In addition, if you are talking with someone and you give them a really good tip and they run with it, they will come back to you wanting more...

It's the old "If he did that for me for free, my lands, what would he do if I paid him?"

    Cheers,

    Millard
