Up and Down.....oooo...ahhhh

Why are sales online so unpredictable?

Even with many different types of businesses and the same traffic sources, sales are totally unpredictable - (up and down).

There is literally no way to predict the number of sales per day.

Obviously some products are seasonal, but for a general product that is non seasonal, this should be relatively predictable.

Have you found this to be the case and why is this so?

Probably because online sales are more limited.

Offline products can be held, tried on, and talked about with the owner, friends, or other customers.

Online products are more static, they can't be tried out at the very moment the customer wants to try it out, it can't be held, and it's hard to talk to other people about the product at the very moment the customer is looking at the item.

Combine that with the fact that people aren't online to buy products (most of the time), and it should come up with the reason why online sales are hard to predict.

Mate - ANY business can have sales that are unpredictable, if you're not accurately measuring your traffic sources, you're HOSED.

How are people landing at your page?

    What keywords?

Are they BUYING keywords? or just "surfing"?

99.5% of people online are just looking for information, even if they type in something specific like "Sony HD 40ND345 Camera" - it just so happens if you position ads or products similar to what people are looking for... a certain percentage will buy.

Then - if you're tracking the process - you'll be able to work out what traffic sources are driving the most SALES, and well - just DO MORE of that...

    Good Luck!

    Cheers

    Dave
