how to select a niche to start?

Hi, guys,

I have spent quite some while around this forum. I will take the model of building a list.

How do you guys select a niche to start? I didn't find it in the all-in-one section.

Thanks
David

If you are making small niches for small income you don't NEED to love the niche or know much about it.

But if you are making 1 website and going to focus on just 1, then you really need to be interested and highly knowledgeable about the subject or willing to learn. If your heart is not in it, then people will know.

It isn't always easy finding a good niche, not only a good niche but one that has good keyword phrases without too much competition.

Hubpages Answers is quite good Hot Questions I have found a couple of good niches just looking through there to see what people are asking or looking for.

If you are promoting physical products then browse Amazon and see what the best sellers are. There are just so many different ways that you can find niches.

At times niches aren't too important. It depends mostly on the affiliate program you are with.

If you are looking at ClickBank, then definitely go somewhere in IM or Health.

Ok picking and finiding a niche are easier then you may think. Look around your house for a little bit. Just take a really good look around. Anything and everything you see can and will be a niche. Now on to phase 2 of chosing a niche.

Sit there away from your computer for 2 seconds. Turn off your tv or go into a room you do not have a tv. Now think about things you like to do. Think of your hobbies. Think of what you like to eat. Now think of things you want to change.Whether its losing weight or not losing your hair. Be sure to have a piece of paper out and jot everything down.

All you need to do is a little brain storming niches are all around you. Another good way is pick up your favorite magazine or newspaper and just look through a few of the sales sections. Now turn on the tv be sure to not watch the tv programs but the actual commercials. Even watching your favorite tv program they market things to you all the time like blackberries and cars.

It doesnt have to be the most popular niche to start with it just has to have a couple of buyers. If there are a few buyers you can bet there are a few thousand buyers or even a few million buyers. All of them do not go online to buy things but just about everyone does go online at some point to do some research. So the niches are all around you in your house and around your house. Your pets are a niche. Your job was a niche. The jobs youve had are niches. People are intrested in learning about alot of things. They are even more intrested in what others have to say about a particular product they do not have. So just brain storm it is not hard to come up with a niche. If you can not do that ask a friend a relative a spouse a girlfriend/boyfriend ask your local gas station attendant.

Go into any bookstore and stand in front of the magazines. If there's a magazine for it, there's a money-making niche for it.

and follow that up with which ever magazine you reach for first, pick that niche

But really, there is no magic formula for picking a niche and everybody does it differently. Some go for traffic, some go for money and others go for something they like.

    Do keyword and trend research.

Experiment with your ideas by building related pages on Hub Pages and Squidoo. Seriously.

If successful, expand to your own web site or marketing niche.

There are several tools out there that let you make intelligent choices based on supply and demand.

    Examples:

    1. The Internet Time Machine
    2. Keyword Spy
    3. Niche Shark
    .. among others.

Combine these tools with further LSI via Google Adwords' Keyword Tool and you can make some very calculated decisions.

    Hope that helps

Here's a 3 step shortcut for you to pick a profitable niche:

    1. Write down every purchase you made in the last 12 months that you were happy with.
      ...
    2. Rank each purchase in order of which one you liked the most.
      ...
    3. Starting with your favorite purchase for the year, go to Google and run the kind of searches you would if you'd not bought that product yet and were still in shopping mode.

When you start seeing a decent amount of AdWords ads on your searches related to a particular product, that tells you the market is active and you can probably grab a piece of it for yourself.
      ...
This is a very simple formula to get you started, but with this method once you find a great niche you'll have first hand experience of it and will be very well positioned to create well informed and high quality reviews.

    Hi david

    The 3 main niches are
    Health
    Wealth
    Personal Development

Find a micro niche in one of the 3 above and work fro there.

For example if you were in the wealth Niche, a micro niche could be weight loss, Diet Supplements, Healthy eating.

Wealth Niche you could choose Inernet Marketing, Work From Home or MLM.

Do some keyword or keyphrase research, make sure it has above 50 k monthly searches, pick a domain name that contains your main keywords and register it. After that do some article posting, blog commenting and forum hosting with the main keywords or keyphrase hyper linked.

  • I select a niche by simply browsing around for a product that I think would be cool to promote. Then I will run some keywords through my keyword tool and see if a) they are profitable keywords (buying keywords) b) how many searches the keywords get c) check out the competition (how many backlinks they have etc).
If everything matches up, I'll promote the product.

Don't pick something that is competitive. Do something small to start. Once you get comfortable about the process, move onto bigger money making websites.

I would encourage you to familiarize yourself with doing keyword research, as it will be extremely beneficial in your quest to find the "best" niche/topic. You want to be able to develop a system of knowing you can rank for something before you start.

This is a bit hard to do when you are new, but it does come with experience. You want to make sure there is a large enough audience for a topic/niche to warrant you going after it--if thats makes sense.

      Hi sinpeople,

Picking a solid niche can be a very complicated task.

I find the best way is to use the process of elimination.

Write down everything you are interested in and try to be as specific as possible.

The next step will be to see how much traffic each niche gets through examining keywords in that niche.

I'd advise you to stick with niches that get at least 10,000 searches a month adding up all of the major keywords.

You can use Google's free keyword tool to find how much traffic each keep word gets.

The next step will be to examine your major competition.

You can do that by examining the websites that rank near the top of the search engines for the major keywords.

If there are a lot of respected and authoritative sites, then I would stay away from that niche.
