I Just Realized I was a "Guru"/Are You?

Guru - a person who is regarded as having great knowledge, wisdom and authority in a certain area, and uses it to guide others.

As part of my goal for the upcoming year - 2009 - I plan using this status as the platform for my business model.

How about you?

I am an ordinary "gal", I don't plan on using the word itself, or for self promotion, I am going to quietly build upon my new realized status by doing what I do best.

I reflected on this quite a bit in an earlier thread I started here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...lot-money.html

Basically, whatever path to knowledge you are on, there are people ahead of you, who YOU look up to. But for every one of those, there are at least 10 people BEHIND you who would gladly look up to you.

    Hope that helps!

Those are the types of people I turn away from. If you have to tell or say to someone you are a guru- you are far from a real "guru"..

When I want find information- I go to the book store and find an "expert". I don't look for "gurus"- and they don't promote themselves as a guru..

Yeah, it can work- but there are better ways to go about it, to be even more successful..

That word is so overused and unoriginal.

        Have some creativity...

Just a "turn off" word for me-

        Good luck!

I agree with building authority- but you do not have to refer to yourself as a "guru". Thats a red flag for me if someone has to call themselves a guru.

Not doubting it work as it depends on your market. These are just my thoughts about he word.

    Tina,

You make a critical point here that most everyone is missing.

The reason most people struggle is because they follow rather than lead. They tell themselves the story that they are not "ready", that they don't have X years of experience so they can't stand up and lead "yet", that maybe "someday" they could be that kind of person.

Then there are those - like several on this thread - who say they just want to be "ordinary".

I understand the context of that statement, but realize that an extraordinary income is a by-product of being extraordinary - not ordinary.

My belief is every single person on this planet is here to both lead and follow. Specifically we're here to follow those who can help us LEAD.

Why? Because leadership is ultimately what creates the evolution of our existence. Communication of new ideas, new ways of looking at old ideas, pushing people into action.....

And ultimately providing a perspective that only you can bring across through your unique gifts, talents and genius.

The reality is that most people go through life as followers. Society conditions us to follow, to accept the ordinary rather than create the extraordinary.

Everyone wants to make a big deal of semantics, namely what the word "guru" means in the world and in this industry. That's just another way of continuing to play small. Besides the term "guru" is rarely self-imposed - it is bestowed by others (the same people who are playing small).

Let's get to the heart of the issue. You have genius within you that is perfectly designed to lead others in a certain way. I contend that's why you are here.

The majority of people never realize the full potential of it. Most probably use less than 10% of their true genius or leadership ability, if that.

Tina, I applaud you for realizing you ARE a guru. Not "someday", not when you're "ready", but right now.

Start leading your crowd right now. They're waiting for you to show up.

    Best regards,
    Ken Preuss

P.S. Everyone should read Keith's post he referenced above. It's dead on.
