Affiliates: Do you have a problem with an Opt In form on sidebar widget?

Hi. I hope to get some good input. I've read that some affiliates are turned off by an opt in form on the sales page, so I removed my form from the side bar widget in wordpress (which shows up on every page), because while not in the middle of the sales page, it still shows up on the sales page.

Problem? Now I'm not getting any sign ups AT ALL with the opt in only on it's on seperate page, when before I was getting a nice amount of sign ups...

I don't want to turn off affiliates, but I definitely want some sign ups so I can continue to promote the product to people who were referred by myself and affiliates (affiliates would still of course get their credit).

So, enough rambling. Will having an opt in form in a side bar widget make you not want to promote a product?

Thanks

For me personally: yes. I would choose not to promote your product simply because you place an opt-in on your website, even if everything else was to my liking; it would deter me from doing so.

      Obviously, yes.

For many professional affiliates (the 10% who produce 90% of the sales), it will disqualify your product immediately.

Either you have an opt-in or you don't. Either it's a leaky sales page or it's not. I honestly can't imagine that anyone cares which page it's on (if you have more than one) or whether it's in a sidebar. Why would this be relevant?

See for yourself what serious affiliates think.

Either you want to build a list from your sales page, or to have serious, professional affiliates promoting your product. Clearly you can't have both, with only one version of the sales page.

The solution: why not just do what vendors increasingly do: have a copy of the sales page with your opt-in, for the affiliates who don't mind/understand that, and one without it? Let affiliates choose. And see which group produces the most sales. That way you alienate nobody. Win/win. Simple: case closed.

Thanks for that thread Alexa. I'll take you guys word for it, and eventually produce 2 pages.

But would still like to understand how / why 5 of the top products in the weight loss niche on clickbank all show an opt in... And to the other poster (sorry didn't get your user name), they all have multiple links...

If you guys are saying the truth about abs, diet solution (dosent have an opt in but has multiple links), and all the other ones that have opt ins, have hundreds of newb affiliates, I'd understand perfectly. But it seems these programs are highly successful.

Won't to reiterate again, I'm not arguing or disagreeing with anyone, I'm just the type that'd like a full understanding for myself instead of just an answer.

        Thanks again

I suspect you're defining "top" according to gravity?

There's very little correlation between the gravity figure and the number of sales, you know?

As discussed here in endless threads, there are plenty of products with single-figure gravities outselling products with three-figure gravities. They're not "rare exceptions" or anything.

There are also some very successful, very high-selling high gravity products, I don't doubt, many of which don't necessarily have the same sales page now that they had when that gravity figure was "created".

I'm sure some are and others aren't.

Also, possibly, when you're an established vendor with a long track-record of success with your own affiliates, things may be a little different, and those affiliates will perhaps happily "follow" the vendor to a new product (as I've done myself, though not with an opt-in!).

Also, some of the ones you're looking at may have another sales page you're not seeing: I myself promote a product on Clickbank with my own sales page without an opt-in, which the vendor kindly provided for me on request, with my own affiliate-link coded into the page - but other affiliates don't see that when they look in the marketplace. What one sees doesn't have to be the whole story.

Thanks for your help as always Alexa.

I always like getting new knowledge and perspective on things.

Will take what you've said into account and make proper adjustments.

            Thanks

Just a side note: I think you have a bigger problem than that on your sales page... the story with the optin form+sidebar on a sales page tells me you are making a big mistake: showing all kind of links to visitors instead of only one - your BUY NOW button.

WordPress or not - your salespage is not supposed to have links.
If you don't have a "linkless" sales page template... better don't use WP for your sales page.

I wouldn't promote a product with an opt-in form. Can't trust vendors these days.

What prevents you from having two landing pages? One for yourself and affiliates who like leaky pages.

"Affiliate would still of course get their credit" is not the only issue. The issue is who gets to have the lead. Who gets to continue marketing to the individual over the next few weeks, months, and years. Personally I want the lead. Your product is not the only one I intend to market within the niche.

Personally, I've never looked at this as a "trust" issue, but as a conversion issue. I want to convert clients either to "this product" or "that product", but not leave them to the whims of someone else.
