What happened to PayPal free trial payments?!

Hey just finished setting up my first WSO...

I wanted to set it up as FREE for 7 Days the a one time payment of $27.

It seems like you can't offer a Trial payment followed by a SINGLE
Payment anymore!

The minimum for any recurring payment seems to be 2 month now.

What gives - or am I just missing something?!

Should be able to. I'm writing this based on my memory.

    Look for Subscription button creation.

    Then, set the trial period.

After that, at the monthly payment box, just enter "1". If you want unlimited times, that box is usually empty.

That's the process I followed - one month doesn't seem to be available - the drop down box starts at 2 (months) :S

    You can do this.
Just login to your account and click on "standard website payments"
Then "Collect recurring or subscription fees"
You can select billing cycle for days months or years.
Then select the "Offer a trial to your subscribers"
You have the option of free or lower rate.
You can then select when to stop the billing cycle.
If you enter 1 then you will get the one payment after the trial period.

Paypal recently changed this. From the testing I have done, you have to have at least 2 billing periods set or the button will fail. Yes, you can set 1 in PayPal when you create the button but when you try to use it you get an error message.

Bizbooks I think your right in saying this

I have seen some memberships sites doing this for the trial ...

      Could be why..?

The problem is not in the amount but the system itself. As things used to stand you could say trial pay of anywhere from 0-* and then a payment charged 1-* and basically hack the subscription button to have a trial price and then final price. So I could charge 2.95 today and 27 thirty days from now then end the subscription automatically.

Now the option has changed so the final price would have to be done in a minimum of two monthly payments which is just silly if you are selling low ticket items.

Actually, requiring you to have at least two regular billing periods makes sense.

If you only have one billing period then it isn't a subscription, but a one off sale. By requiring you to have two billing periods PayPal is trying to ensure that people use the proper buttons for the types of sales they are running.

I just tried this with a DLGuard membership sales link, and it seems to work fine for me:

    http://dlguard.com/dlgdev/sell.php?prodData=m%2C20

As you can see it's zero dollars for 7 days, then $500 for 1 month only.

Perhaps everyone now needs to buy DLGuard?

    cheers

      Sam,

After seeing your post that it works for you I went back and did some research. I see where the issue is I think.

With the free trial and then one off payment you don't have the recurring option turned on ( the src portion of the button code.) If you have the src line in the button code your telling PayPal you have a recurring subscription but you only have one payment. If you remove the src line it seems to work as now PayPal is only expecting one payment.

I figured out a work around for SMP so this works by removing the src line if the billing period is less than 2 and it seems to work.

Ah yes, I found this out the hard way when I first added Paypal recurring billing to DLGuard - was slamming my head against the desk trying to figure out why 1 cycle wouldn't work.

So if that was the problem that Doop is having, then it's not a new issue - it's been there at least a few years, perhaps more.

Great to hear you got it sorted!

    cheers

Can someone please provide an example of what SRC line to delete?
      Thanks.
