Help needed: What should I do with my niche dating affiliate site?

Dear Warriors,

I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and advice on a site of mine. The site is a niche dating affiliate site I launched a year ago.

My hard work has paid off and checking my rankings in Google I was very pleased to see that I've finally taken 1'st for most of my target keywords. I'm pulling in around 10,000 visitors a month and about $1,500 in commissions, which may go up a bit with the new rankings.

I'm pleased with that of course, but now I'm considering how to make the most of it!

The site is currently monetized with CPA sign ups for a dating site (which I've beaten for all major keywords), and is earning a decent amount from that every month - just not enough!

What I have considered is:

1. Convert the site into a dating site and run it myself
2. Convert the site into a dating site and let a partner run it
3. Tweak and test to max the affilate income
4. Sell the site on Flippa
5. Contact the established dating sites with offer to buy

I have no idea on how to run a dating site, but I am thinking it has to be more profitable in the long run than being an affiliate. I also think it would be easier to sell a dating site than an affiliate site.

So I was thinking, maybe find a partner with experience in dating sites and let him/her run it for a split?

Looking forward to your insights!

I'd say it depends on where your interests lie - all the things you mentioned are viable options.

I don't think I can help you choose the right option for you, but I can give you some things to think about.. and hopefully help you narrow it down.

Are you actually interested in running a dating site? Yeah it could be more profitable, but if it's not where your interests lie, then cross off numbers 1, 2 and 5.

If you are interested in it, do you care enough (or think you're capable enough) to learn everything you need to know to run it - all on your own? That could take some effort. If not, cross off numbers 1 and 5 and reconsider 2.

Are you interested in continuing what you are doing or are you ready for something new?

If you are ready for something new, look into your option 4.. sell the site use the money and start anew on a project you will enjoy more.

If not, that is when you should consider number 2.. continue doing what you're doing, but better.

Best of luck and congrats on your success thus far!

In order to keep your visitors coming back, you must have fresh content for them everytime. To update your site with fresh content can be time consuming. Maybe you can outsource the articles to writers or you can have a partner run the site & split the profits.

I think selling this website is a waste as it is passive income for you. Why not monetize your site further with Adsense or ebooks from Clickbank or Amazon dating books?

Congrats on your success with the dating site. I am not sure what you have on the site, but I recently read that the popular dating site "Plenty of Fish" makes about $10K a day in Adsense income alone! That may be an option to consider if you haven't already.

I agree with the other poster. If you have no clue how to run a dating site I would think it could be a real hassle, unless you are super interested and if you take on a partner that can open up a whole new set of issues.

I think monetizing it further with Adsense and or other products would be great. You could build a list and share romance gift ideas, ebooks etc.

    Hey Jack,

    Congratz on your success.

Convert the site into a dating site and run it myself
Convert the site into a dating site and let a partner run it
How confident are you in being able to compete
with the dating sites you're promoting?

Dating sites is a huge and competitive niche. If you
want to get more money out of it, it's better not to be
a commodity and be just another generic dating site.

If you can find a unique angle for your dating side,
it's good to go for it.

    Examples of unique ones are:
    OKCupid
    DateaCougar
    MillionaireMatch

    3. Tweak and test to max the affilate income
    4. Sell the site on Flippa
This would be easier to do. If you aren't collecting the
leads yourself, you can at least double your profits
    by doing so.

    Why?

If you've checked out the dating niche, you would
know there are lots of products out there that you
    can sell.

Check out the PUA niche and you will already have
a huge amount of products to promote as an affiliate.

Once you see the potential, you might even want
to create your own dating niche product to sell to
    your list.

Once you get bored with it, then only sell it on
Flippa for at least 12x monthly revenues.

    5. Contact the established dating sites
    with offer to buy
If you can get them to reply you with an offer,
    they might lowball you.

$1500 isn't much in their eyes. You have better
chance and higher profits if you sell it to another
    affiliate.
