Check out the SEO forum for some good advice on traffic generation. SEO is crucial to driving traffic to your website through the search engines.

Write good content on your site, perform good keyword research with the Google keyword tool so that you know what specific key-phrases to target in the content of your site, promote your blog through article marketing, social media and social bookmarking.

There's a lot more to it, but the above will get you headed in the right direction. Again, the SEO forum is great for advice on driving traffic. This forum is great for understanding affiliate marketing. Read through the threads. You will find invaluable advice.

So Keith, this is your plan for next week.

Spend 2 hours hang out in this forum. Find out IM term, like traffic, squeeze page, list building, etc, anything that you don't know what it's mean.

Find out the definition on Google. After you learn IM language, it is time for you to PLAN.

If you want to make money, you need to create value and communicate it.

So, figure out how you can create value from your existing skill. Create product about solving certain thing, anything. Then learn about strategy to generate traffic here to LEARN how to communicate your VALUE.

DO this, and nothing else, next month you'll see good progress from yourself. Especially since you are ready to work and learn hard.

Go and start your keyword research first. Even though you are good at hardware, hardware is not the only niche. Select long tail keywords at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal and hang out at the SEO forum.

The first thing is to do keyword research & select a keyword in your niche you want to target. Buy domain with your keywords in it.

In order to drive traffic to your site, your site has to be at the top of search engines. In order to do this, your website has to be fully optimized with your keywords. Optimize your keywords in meta tags (meta header, meta description & meta keyword). Sprinkle your content with keywords as well. Promote your website by writing articles & submitting them to article directories. This gives some backlinks to your website.

I come from an IT background myself, so I can relate to your situation.

Anyway, here are my suggestions -

1. Make a List of All Your Skills and Technical Knowledge
2. Do some basic Keyword research to see if people are looking for information related to your areas of expertise.
3. Do some Google searches with those keywords and see if there are paid adwords when your search results show up (if people are paying for ads, then there is a demand)
4. At this point you have some soul searching to do - Do you want to create & sell your own product/service or promote products as an affiliate or both (Ideally both - but you got to start somewhere)
5. If you are decide to have your own product what will it be - InfoProduct, Software or Service?
6. Will this be a one off sale or a recurring sale (subscription or membership) ?
7. Now You are armed with enough information to register a "keyword rich" domain name if one is available.
8. You need a blog anyway - decide if it will be on its own domain or as /blog on your main site.
9. Don't spend too much time on these steps. Give yourself a limited time (1-5) days should be more than enough. I have gone through these steps in a matter of hours and launched sites. The important thing is not to get stuck. Make quick decisions and move along. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. You can correct them along the way. Its a part of the process.
10. Now that you have made your decisions - come up with a Plan of Action - (For Getting your site up and running.... Getting Your product/service ready...... And For Getting Traffic) Write this Plan down.
11. Now Go Take Action & start implementing this Plan.
