Seeking help & opinions on new Ebook venture

Hi,

I only just found this place and have read a few threads & it seems like I'm in the right place.

I'm trying to figure out if a plan of mine is feasible and a good use of my time, and that has been proving difficult with all the hype surround IM and get rich quick schemes.

I believe that get rich quick IS possible, but get rich quick and easy certainly isn't, and I'm willing to do whatever in required short and long term.

Would you folks mind commenting on my plan?

I have a new business (It services) that is just about paying the rent for now.
I intend to grow it and launch a hardware product later this year.

I've become interested in writing technical Ebooks on subjects I'm expert at aimed at non-tech and low-medium tech readers.

My aim is to generate some passive income from the sales of the ebooks and later on to drive traffic to my product.

I have around two months to work on the Ebook project before I turn my attention to my hardware project, and I can spend around 20 hours per week.

Am I being overly optimistic in my expectations of passive income?
Am I maybe better off direct selling my skills to local business?

Any thoughts very welcome indeed.

Thanks for reading this far:rolleyes:

Simon,

I'm a student of the Napoleon Hill approach to business, BTW.

It really depends on the uniqueness of what you are offering.

Ebooks can be very successful, but you really need to make it something special.

I have been selling an ebook for years and have done very well with it, but it is a niche area and product I sell to.

I think it will be unique - it will certainly be high quality and prettied up with Visio diagrams.

Care to post a link to your product? I'm on the Gold Coast/Brisbane area BTW.

        Hi Simon,

        Welcome to The Warrior Forum!

You are in the right place to get the knowledge, guidance and feedback for your online ventures.

        Here are my thoughts -

        1) Apart from the uniqueness of your product itself - do some basic research to see if there is a demand for it. (Keyword research, Google Searches - Tip: See if there are paid ads on your searches. If people are paying for ads, there's probably money to be made)

The reason I make this suggestion is because we are too often wrapped up in our knowledge that we might sometimes miss what what the market is looking for. So, taking a quick step back to look at the big picture will help.

        2) While Getting Rich Quick is possible (we see examples all around us), in most cases it does not happen that way. So, I encourage you to focus on sound business principles while planning your venture (Sell something there is a demand for, create a quality product, great pricing, great customer service, great marketing plan, etc). The riches will follow. And again "quick" differs from person to person. For some people it is a week, for others a month or even a year.

        3) Why choose between passive income from your ebooks and selling your skills to local businesses? You can do both. Finish the ebook, set the marketing wheel in motion and then start selling your skills to Local businesses. Your passive income keeps building while you get Active income from serving local businesses.

Hope this helps! Good Luck in your Online Ventures!

        Jay

          Jay,

Thanks for the reply - that's most helpful.

I think my concerns spring from a lack of understanding and direction of marketing in general - something I think many new businesses falter on.

"Got my skills, got my product now where are my customers?"

          <the silence is deafening >

I'm going to set aside some quality time to fill the gaps in my knowledge about general marketing and as you suggest I'll do some in depth research.

As soon as I found this forum I knew I was in the right place - it's not always easy to find the right place when the internet is decorated by monkeys with type writers

Getting rich quick by my standards is one year, but I'm in it for the medium term also. I want to create an enduring business that will be of interest to big business in terms of a buyout further down the line - that's my exit strategy.

          as for point 3.

Thanks, that was my preferred option, but up until now I have had no one to bounce such ideas off that has any understanding of internet marketing.

I can see the big picture & how it all will fit together (that's what I'm good at), but I'm also aware that my big picture is based on assumption to a degree, so it's very helpful to hear from people who have gone before that my assumptions may be correct.

Last I heard, Technical books are in high demand, especially those that the layperson can easily understand. Most such books are too technical and leave the reader puzzled.

I'm not that familiar with IT, but it makes sense to create books that show your knowledge and link them to your skill sets.

Of course, it depends on the specific subject matter which should be in demand. Find out where people need technical data first and then write to that market.

            I hope this helps.

            Simon,

            I'm glad that was helpful.

One year is a decent amount of time on the internet. I've seen fortunes made in that time frame. So I can say that from my perspective that is not an impossible scenario (unless the fortune you are going after is a 100 million or some crazy number like that)

But, I've also seen far too many people stuck at the same stage a year later.

Why do some people succeed, beyond their wildest dreams, while others stay where they are?

I believe the key is - Taking Action (apart from other factors)

To go a step further the key is - Taking CONSISTENT Action.

As you start on this journey - just keep in mind that you need to be taking action consistently. Do not let yourself get complacent like so many of us Internet Entrepreneurs do.

Keep moving..... And move fast. You will see results.

            Cheers!

            Jay
