Double Opt In Question - Need Some Peoples Opinions...

Ok Warriors, I need a bit of help here.

I've been doing some testing with getting people to double opt in as oppose to just having them single opt in. Now I get the differences and the benefits of having people double opt in but I'm finding that I'm losing a lot of the leads that I've gathered because people are not confirming.

I'm getting something like 1 or 2 out of every 10 leads actually double opt in. Now this seems like a massive lose in conversion.

So I was wondering what other people are getting in the way of their double opt ins? What's the ruff matrix for people actually double opting in? Is it about 20% confirmed or do people tend to get better like 50% confirm?

Would really love to hear what people have to say on this and what people are getting.

Thanks

I'm not really sure, but I do know Frank Kern doesn't do double opt-in which in other words, you will get more subscriber but you will also get more opt-out... it really depend on how you want it, as for me I still use double opt-in.. because I rather get someone who did really want to be on my list better then someone who just want to screw around...

There are some variables to consider, including but not limited to:

    1) The offer itself.
Is the offer strong enough to make them want it so that they confirm?

    2) The copy and call to action.
How compelling is the copy itself?

    3) The landing page after they submit the form.
Are you telling them to watch for an email with a confirmation link?

Personally, I'm getting well over 50% confirmation. Closer to 80%.

I prefer double opt-in for a few reasons:

    1) Cleaner lists means much higher deliverability.
    2) I know my prospects are on my lists because they WANT to be.
    3) I know my prospects are actual humans that are interested in my offer.

Single opt-in all the way. Sure with double opt-in your lists are cleaner, and your open and click thru rates may be higher, and you will have to pay for more subs...however, in end I care about sales above all and in my opinion there are PLENTY of people who don't understand the double opt-in no matter how clear and easy you make the process. And these same people are potential buyers.

And their are other services that you do both single and double and let you send to both but auto filters through their email servers so it knows what gets sent as a double opt in and single opt in.. infusionsoft does this. You can have a double opt in flow set up but if they fail to confirm, you can still send to them but it goes through the single opt in server so the deliveribility will suffer some..

You can also setup triggers to keep sending them a reminder to 'Download your free ebook you requested... by clicking here to confirm you are REAL...' then when they do finally do it they get the content they initially wanted and are double opted in...

Just one example.. I am familiar with about 5 auto responder services and infusionsoft is definitely the most flexible but you do have to pay$ for it. But what is $300 a month if you are making any kind of real money and growing... right? I use it to manage EVERYTHING in one place.

This is really great. Thanks for sharing you numbers as to what you've been getting. Those are the kind of numbers that I was feeling I should be getting. Guess I need to change the process that my leads are going through.

I have to agree that sales are the bottom line and where it's all at. But when I made the change to double opt in I felt that my open rates and all were just too crappy and I knew that getting the double opt in would make a big difference.

But I do have to admit that i'm not totally set on either way. The judgment is still out there for me but I'm a bit more inclinded to have them double opt in ass long as I get a good enough conversion.

I would redirect them to your own confirmation request notice page with your own personal video thanking them and explain them to confirm and/or give them an additional bonus with a link in the confirmation email to that unannounced bonus.

They'll check the email to confirm and look for that bonus link.

We'll I'd say opinion is only an opinion...

I've actually tested it... both in terms of sign-ups and profitability...

    SINGLE OPT-IN WINS.

And it's won for me every time.

Sure, you have to pay more for subs, but it's worth it!

Mary, I've always used single opt-in myself too, as I feel it ultimately increases the overall number of sign-ups, and having a higher number of people who unsubscribe doesn't really bother me at all.

I have heard that people tend to be lazy about going back to their emails to confirm their email addresses in the case of double opt-in, and with many free email addresses the delivery of that crucial confirmation email can often go straight to spam.
