Clickbank Identities - again

I've just clicked on my own CB product link on my blog - at the foot of the purchase page I see affiliate = hongchen.cbboss. That's not my CB identity.

I thought CB were supposed to be sorting out these problems?

You might have already tried this but claer your coookies and also check that you don't have any spyware scanner running that blocks CB cookies and then close the browser and try again.

    Hope this helps.

I'm beginning to wonder what the point of CB hoplinks is. Guess I just don't understand. The link says something like 15.myidentity.hop.clickbank.com

I don't see how cookies on my computer (or anyone else's) can change that. If it's down to cookies then what's the point of having "myidentity" in the link?

Plus - I can't ask my purchasers to clear their cookies and restart their browsers before ordering!

        Rosetrees,
In your Sig, below, to your blog, I am receiving the following message.
"Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://spam-and-phishing.blogspot,com/"
        "Operation Aborted".

Maybe another Warrior can try your sig link, but my IE Version is up to date.

I think a hacker is playing with your site.
He/she lets you login and do your thing,
        (You don't receive the message)
but the public is getting the message above.

Maybe a few Warrior clicks can confirm this.
Hope this is not your problem.
Anyone else care to click/view and help Rose out ?

I don't know what happened earlier, but now I can get in without
the message. (I cleared my cookies)

I now get "affiliate=none" also. (On your $3 item "Phishing")

It might have something to do with the fact that you are sending your visitors directly to the order page.

    I also got affiliate=none.

Maybe you setup your link wrong

I suggest you cloak your link with Affiliate Link Magic- The Most Powerful Cloaking Software On The Planet! That way no one can see or change your CB ID and you can have a popup and exit popup on the CB page.

Just a thought, is your publisher nickname rosetrees? If so there is nothing wrong with your link, it should be showing affiliate=none because you are the publisher, not the affiliate.

affiliate=none is what it should say as it's my product. Yes Sylvia, that is my publisher id.

Just tried on another site with another product in Chrome and I get affiliate=fishcatch

I'm going to change all my products to Paypal as it seems to me that this is just so random and unreliable. It must be happening to everyone that has a product on CB.

MikeC thanks for the link cloaking link - maybe I'll try that first. I tried tinyurl once, but immediately ran into identity problems and removed it, which is why the link is visible.

I just think CB need a different system. You can't instruct your purchasers to clear their cookies, and check to see which affiliate name is displayed. They need to find a system that works!! I can understand that cookies that last long enough for a purchaser to change form a trial version to a paid version could be a problem. But the point is that a correctly formatted hoplink with the correct affiliate ID should be read directly and no rely on a cookie - otherwise what's the point of having the affiliate ID in the link?

I contacted CB and this is their reply@

It appears that you have clicked through that affiliate's hoplink at one point. After a cookie has been deposited on a system, a referral will still continue to be tracked after the initial click through. That way, if a customer purchases from that publisher's site up to 60 days later, the affiliate will still receive the commission.
That's rubbish I'm afraid. I use CBMultitool and that item isn't even listed. There are no affiliates and therefore I can't have clicked on an affiliate's hoplink. The item is listed on my blog and only on my blog.

I see one affiliate name if I use IE, and a different one (catchfish - which in itself says a lot) if I use Chrome.

Everyone in this thread is correctly seeing affiliate = none

Only you are seeing an affiliate - and on different sites.

That's my point - what you see varies according to whichever CB "hijacker" has dumped cookies on your computer. As I keep saying, you can't ask your purchasers to check what the affiliate = says or clear their cookies.

I just scanned with malwarebytes - nothing.

But it isn't just me this happens to. When it was discussed before there were an endless variety of affiliate= that were seen, which bore no relationship to what should have been seen.

CB are telling me I must have clicked on an affiliate link. Impossible. There aren't any, and the only link I clicked on is the one on my blog.

I'm leaving CB anyway, but I've a feeling this will rumble on for a long time!! It doesn't really affect me much anyway, I'm a very very small fish to CB.

      Edit: /Rant!!

It's one of those day. I drove 10 miles today to buy a new vacuum cleaner. Got it home. Didn't work. Had to drive all the way back to return it!! The house is still dirty.

Rosetrees, you are linking to the CB payment page itself.

When you do that and bypass the publisher pitch page, the link is subordinate to any other affiliate cookies that may have been placed on the visiting computer.

This is the risk you take when linking directly to the CB payment page.

Harvey Segal is very knowledgeable about this, and you can confirm any doubts on his forum here:

If you don't feel cookies are an appropriate way to track referrals i'm not sure what you're suggesting - they need something which doesn't rely on you adding much to your page as people will mess that up and therefore sessions / post variables wouldn't work and also would last across browser sessions.

Ip tracking is also flawed as many people have dynamic ips, so, despite how inadequate the solution is you probably won't be able to run any kind of affiliate program without them.
