Default Traffic Geyser Useless After Upcoming Google Slap?

Curious about this. I heard through the grape vine Google is going to slap down social bookmarking rankings/social networking stuff pretty soon. For services that are set up completely based around building interlinking networks like traffic geyser, won't this be a huge issue? Just curious how many people are dependent on this kind of thing, seems like it's only a matter of time before social bookmarking becomes history in terms of being a good way to produce traffic. Just thinking out loud here. Thoughts?

I thought Traffic Geyser was a video uploading service, first and foremost. Is that wrong?

It does both. Uploads videos and bookmarks them.

I'll ask Mike and see what they're planning to do if that's the case.

How would this make the TG service useless? Are you saying nobody would watch your videos and go to your sites?

If so, I guess the conclusion is that video doesn't work.

Google chose to rank videos high on its search
results. Google may have looked at the way
video is being exploited and determined that
having 10 videos (all the same, all occupying the
first page of search results) wasn't good for it's
credibilty as a push-button source of varied
information.

As long as video was so well-treated by Google
it was feasible to exploit the algorhythms in a
more or less spammy way. I am sure Google
asks people if they like video content or if they
want a balance. I suspect most users want a
balance so Google is no doubt looking for a way
to deliver balanced search results.

It's interesting in light of this how heavily TG is
being pushed lately... even today there is some sort
of video marketing launch going on clearly tied
in with it.

I personally use traffic geyser myself and love it. Traffic Geyser does a great job at getting traffic. The whole idea (at least the main one in the beginning) was to save the user time in submitting videos. How much time in a day does one really have to upload to all the video sites to be sure that their video is seen? In my book, if you can get even the slightest bit of exposure to your site, its better than none at all.
Even if the "google slap" happens again, it still does a lot more...
It:
*converts my videos to podcasts for me * I can call a phone number and record my audio file for podcast sites and submit it. * I can embed a video into my website and get the "YouTube" thing off from the bottom right corner. (nothing against youtube, but it just looks better and more professional) * It lets me make a lead capture page, captures the signups * It tracks my video views all in one place * It lets me add a custom audio player to my site.
So, even if they DO do a google slap, I guess I would say that I still think traffic geyser provides something we all want....more time in the day to do the things that are important and not tedious time wasters.

Am I missing something here?

Since when have we ever been privy to what Google May do?

Don't they just do it and we all stand around scratching our heads for a month til we figure out the next great thing?

Having said that, I have been experimenting with videos, not with TG, but another similar type program and I have not seen any good results as far as rankings go.

Could be too early, but from the TG video I saw Frank Kern do a while back, his results were pretty quick.

Time will reveal all, it always does.

Like Scott, asks, ' since when does Google tell us what the really plan to do.'

And as noted earlier in this thread, traffic geyser is primarily a video submission service. Now, it just happens that for most videos you submit, you are also able to place and get credit back links.

So, what ever google does TG will still be successful at it's major service. You will be able to get traffic from all the other places you have hosted your videos on.

Always, work with search engines as if they can change they way the operate tomorrow. Because, well, they can. Take advantage of them while you can but understand, unless you own it (search engine), they can decide to change things at will.

I am the one that predicted this up and down, just google "social bookmarking slapdown chris lang" and you can see how many times I urged everyone not to take the chance.

How did I know, a theory and 10 years of history and really a good guess. I do remember the first time I saw a Christmas Google slap down. 2003 they kicked the crap out of big commercial sites that had been buying links.

Google has been letting social bookmarking sites like Digg influence Google rankings very easily for a long time. What I theorized if that it was so easy that Google was watching us and waiting to bring the slap down at Christmas, just like every year.

I was lucky enough to see it happen in real time on Friday afternoon. I watched a client's site that has no business in any Google result come in at 20 under a moderate traffic term in Google and then slowly climb to #4.

Meanwhile other very dominant sites dropped out of sight. I have no idea what they did or their link history. However if you now Charles Heflin of SEO2020 he has been tracking a number of sites and has real data.

I can't say that TG could hurt your site since I don't use it. I do all my social submissions by hand and participate highly. Maybe some of our fellow warriors would like to chime in with real data?

I am not taking credit for anything here, I am trying not to say I told you so. But I know some very high profile marketers that are now buried by Google. It does not mean that this is just a algo tweaking period and all will return. Wait and see I guess.

I will say that a client's site that I was just starting to push into Google with Bookmarks just dropped out of site since I had no good links yet. Forgot my own predictions. Also Mixx is worthless now, having changed the link structure. Different site when you are logged out.

They will still be inbound links, right?

Why will it matter what Google does with their algo?

They changed it 400 times last year, probably will be twice that this year.

I think it is fair to say that Google will keep trying to deliver quailty results so that people use it and they can continue to hold search engine domination.

That means anything spammy or of poor quality will eventually be filtered out. I would not build a business that is dependant on only one traffic method.

The best thing to do is do what works and be adaptable. Don;t do things that are obviously short term because when the rug gets pulled (and it always does) you want to have some backup.

Here is an idea. Create some unique quality content and distribute / syndicate it fairly with a reasonable amount of leverage but not going over the top.

Do multiple traffic tactics and you will have many pillars to your sites foundations.

PPC, Video, Articles, Blog, Forum, Links, Directories etc.... Diversifiy.
