Cloaking affiliate id turning out to be so frustrating

4 replies
Hey everyone

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

1. Ill make this super short
2. I put in a search to make sure theres no answer in the forum before I post.

Now my question is:
I have a few articles I would like to submit to article directories but without any blog or website to direct the link to.
Instead I plan on just using my affiliate id in the article and just giving my review and opinion.

How do I do that? Just for article submissions? Is it even possible?

It looks like the only solution would be using tinyurl but when a reader sees that, they might not trust the unknown link and therefore I lose the customer anyway. So showing the long ugly affiliate link, I could lose the customer (or have it hijacked) OR/AND lose a customer because of an distrustful looking url.

Long story why I just cant open a website or use the current blog I have. This post will turn into a tome lol.

Sigh! Anyone?

      I second what Norb said.

      You can start out with .info first. It's only $1+ with coupons.

        Thanks NC and Tyler. That was quick and I appreciate it. Dont worry - I took the advice constructively. Nothing mean about that - Im no guru.
        Ive tried quite a few courses and I thought hey let me open a blog and put it out there.
        Meantime, I realise the weight in having a couple of well picked out keywords & .coms. I'll get there, slowly but surely!

      I wanted to start using bity URLs.

      What do you mean by "use internal tracking thru redirects"? Can you give me an example.

      Thank you

    If you have your own URL, then you can set up an index.html file on it with the following code:

    <html>
    <head>
    <title>One moment please...</title>
    <meta http-equiv="REFRESH" content="0;url=http://putyouraffiliateurlhere"></head>
    <body>
    One moment please...
    </body>
    </html>

    Anybody who clicks on a link that points to this URL will be redirected through your affiliate URL to the landing page of the product owner.

    To my knowledge, all article directories allow this if you use the URL for only this one product.

    However, many article directories will allow you to promote several products by setting up multiple redirects on a single URL by putting custom index files in sub-folders describing the particular product being promoted. In other words, the above index.html file would go in a sub-folder as opposed to in the root of the domain...like this:

    yoursitedotcom/affiliateproduct/

    You can set up an infinite number of affiliate products based on this format, but not all article directories allow this, although I do not see where it makes any difference personally.

    Oh, and this cloaks your affiliate ID at the same time so you never have to worry about a bit.ly type of service screwing it up on you.
